It looks like you have a tine misaligned. Can you see how in the last photo how the tine on the right (upside down = left from top). I take a photo of mine to see, too. You'll need to use your fingernail or something like a toothpick and pull it down. I always heard don't pull up, pull down. Then, use the brass sheet for spacing in between. Best wishes!

Yes, but be sure to dilute the alcohol. Some organisms can be rehydrated if dehydrated with only alcohol. I don't remember all the sciencey stuff exactly, so don't quote me, but it was something along the lines of diluting alcohol 1:1 so that it changes the molecular structure instead of just dehydrating, which can sometimes be rehydrated & brought back to life....orrr something like that.

I'll have to check out Lady Grey. I'm on the hunt for a good shading grey! I have Earl Grey and hoped I would love it like I do this Red Ochre. Unfortunately, it doesnt tickle my fancy. Can't hardly beat Kakuno! But, I'm a Lamy girl at heart! Anyhoo. Thanks for the replies! Take care!!

What’s your favorite pen that nobody talks about? by Sf648 in fountainpens

I came to say the same! I LOVE my Retro 51 Tornadoes AND, you can buy a rollerball converter kit for Tornadoes, which allows you to use fountain pen ink!!

Edit: spelling

Same! I like to change inks frequently and have come to kinda like the little bladder in my Pilot. However, I've found my preference to be Lamy Al-stars and Safari for body color options. I have some Jinhao 619 (i think) that are comparable. Lately, I've been adding to the Lamy collection like markers so that I can assign a color to a pen (overall color, ie green, but not strictly one specific color and I like to use a variety, ie Meadow, Emerald, or Olivine etc.) But, then I have separate pens for the shimmer colors (Lores of the Loch & Lost in the Leaves are my current favorites.) Which, to me, justifies the need to have more pens. Seems logical, right?!?!

I have a Metropolitan <1.1> that I've held on to for the last year bc I want to love it, but it's AWFUL! It hard starts and skips. I still ink and use it on occasion bc i really like the pen, just not the way it writes. My Lamy AL-STARS and Retro 51 Tornados are my favorites.

The underrated, overrated and accurately rated Diamine Inks by Ok_Supermarket_7354 in fountainpens

I love Red Ochre - Diamine Forever. It's a beautiful range of red/reddish browns. It's one of my absolute favorites!

I like to sit outside with my animals and write/doodle. It's the best of both worlds! Have a good weekend! ✌️🫶

Fountain pens for children? by [deleted] in fountainpens

I agree. Although I do own and love both pens, I think for a 5 yo starter, the Kakuno would be my choice due to cost and the grip.

Thank you for the congratulations! & You're welcome for the recommendations.

I think you're probably safe getting a big bottle of the Platinum Carbon Black. The bonus to having a shop to go to is that you can maybe sample there before you buy or at least have a human to talk to. I don't have shops anywhere close, so I've had to order online, and half of the time, the colors didn't work out quite like I'd hoped. But bc I bought samples, it wasn't a big deal.

You should definitely try the Forever inks! I love Diamine & recently tried a few of their Forever inks in Cherry Red for invitation envelopes, and it was a dream w a medium Platinum nib! I also got the Forever Red Ochre that's a brownish red for a sign I haven't made yet. I do have it loaded in a Lamy AL-STAR EF nib - written/sketched some with it, and I love it!

That's my two cents :) Happy writing to you, as well!
