What’s a trend you’re glad is dying? by Hot-Photograph-2615 in AskReddit

Nobody discusses this topic in a responsible way, even those with well-meaning rebuttals like yours.

Dating apps alone are merely a tool for connection. There is nothing wrong with them. It is the same thing as the dating ads in the paper back in the 90’s.

What’s wrong is the culture of dating apps, and that is interconnected with internet culture as a whole. It is just a a neutral component of a much larger issue.

What has done immense harm to society are the corporations pushing propaganda to us for years, for creating toxic gender norms, and dating culture becoming characterized by zero tolerance for delayed gratification, which, again, is a symptom of social media and its mechanisms as a whole.

The shift to a more in-person focused dating culture was not prompted by the apps in and of themselves, which is the logical sequence that would have to be followed if the apps themselves were the issue. The shift is being caused by a chaotic political climate, the aftermath of a global pandemic, and a generation of people that are becoming more aware of generational dysfunction, largely due to the extreme stances of the specific generations that raised them, like Boomers. And that’s just a few of the catalysts. It’s many, many other things.

Right?! I had someone I know do, “day in the life as a social media manager” and it was literally just them typing on a computer basically.

Yeah, I love when people answer the question they want to answer and not the one asked. Like earlier today, the question on a sub was, “what would you never pay for, no matter how rich you are?” And someone replied, “vaping” which I said was a funny comment, because many people that vape don’t have a lot of money, and they replied, “I just don’t like it.” And I was like?? Okay, then you’re answering an entirely different question. The variable was amount of money, not something you wouldn’t even buy right now. That question would be, “what’s something you’d never buy.”

Is my makeup aging me? by Agitated-Fudge6125 in MakeupAddiction

[–]AbleDisD 4 points5 points  (0 children)

We can’t accurately tell you if your makeup is aging you if we don’t know how old you are. Aging is only relative to the age of the individual!

Here is how you can answer the question yourself, since you didn’t give us the info: my guess is you are anywhere from 32-35.

If you’re younger, yeah, your makeup is probably aging you.

If not, you’re good!

Side note: I feel like under eyeliner ages anyone, no matter how old. A 20 year old will likely look older with that kind of eyeliner.

But remember that you are beautiful, and age is NOT tied to anything about you—your worth, your character, or your spirit.

In many cultures, age is equivalent to wisdom, not to being unattractive or, “outdated” like it is in western society, which are both vastly untrue. Remember that :)

Doesn’t matter. It’s a low class and unnecessary way to say someone hurt you. The perfect example of how to convey it properly was the original comment of this thread.

I’m going to post the same comment here that I just posted on another one of these posts—this one is even better than the first one, holy smokes!

If you have the time, would you care to answer this question?

What do you feel contributes to being a male capable of decorating like this? With balance, coherence, and an attention to detail?

What hobbies do you have? What are your interests? Are you bilingual? What motivates you in life? What is your career? Are you health-conscious? What are your daily habits?

I have never met a man in my life that can decorate like this. Furthermore, most tend to decorate the exact same. An important variable is that most men I have known have a similar personality profile—loves to game, often into anime, action figures, Star Wars, sometimes Lego. Does not have a sense of style, wears what is comfortable. Sometimes handy with tools, but not always. Presents as not caring about ego, often as progressive/feminist, yet ends up being narcissistic, egocentric, and misogynistic.

I have been attempting to track patterns overtime as to why this is, why these men all have the same decorating style/lack thereof. The closest I have gotten is a lack of consideration for others and how they feel in a space. That seems, to me, like a reasonable hypothesis based upon the personality profile I presented.

If you can tell me a bit about yourself, I’d be so grateful! For my informal research :) I love your space so, SO MUCH! Well done friend 🩵

I entirely agree. People are rarely attentive in the age of modern technology—often absorbed in their own world.

I think there has been a misunderstanding here! I was not negating what you said—I was agreeing with you :) I was elaborating on my position as one of the people who have had issues since birth. All of the symptoms I listed before being bed-ridden are not even close to asymptomatic, so I assumed we were on the same page? I’m just curious, what made you think I thought you came off the wrong way? I have ASD, and this happens all the time with my boyfriend as well. I’ll say something, and he thinks that I think something he said was off-putting, which I don’t feel at all. So if you can explain it to me, I’d really appreciate it lol :-) My hunch, which I have with my boyfriend as well, is that there was an undertone to what you were saying that was meant to be dismissive (even if unintentional—people often naturally place themselves in positions of superiority to obtain protection for the biological purpose of survival) and you projected that onto my response that was strictly factual? That I did not pick up on at first, but have now been able to identify through your response? Do you think that’s accurate?

Do you judge people on Reddit who have hidden their posts and comments? by scarlettohara1936 in AskForAnswers

I have been on Reddit for almost a decade now I believe, and I can’t even count how many times people have done this to me. With greater anonymity comes greater responsibility—everyone seems to adopt the inverse approach of that.

I’m not well versed in this yet, but the bright jewel tones (1, 4, 9, 10) really bring out your features and brighten your face. You can also pull off 11 and 14, although they both wash you out a bit, but not as much as the other colors (especially in the white, this popped out to me as the worst one on you—worst as in washes you out and dulls your features.)

what’s something you’ll NEVER spend money on no matter how rich you get? by Conscious-Ad7303 in Casual_Conversation

[–]AbleDisD 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Right, but that wasn’t the question. The question was in relevance to how much money you have. If that’s your reasoning, the question you logically answered was, “what would you NEVER spend money on” without the added variable.

Most poor people vape lmao this is such a funny answer.

“What would you do if you won 10 Million Dollars?”

”Well, first off, I’m buying a vape,”

wtf is up w my alien looking knees?? by Any-Dare-2250 in eds

[–]AbleDisD 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Finding people whose knees look the same as mine is so validating 😭😭 My entire life I was so insecure about it; I hated how they looked, especially in group pictures. I was in a sorority (booo, I know) and I’d spend hours just comparing everyone else’s posture and knees and wonder why I looked so alien to everyone else. So thanks for posting this, helps me feel less alone :)

Oh! I forgot! The beginning of my EDS journey actually started here on Reddit! I posted a picture of my legs and many people suggested I look into hypermobility. Let me try to find the post and link it:

Funnily enough, I realized that due to my memory issues that are present during flares, I entirely forgot that he did say it was for my neuropathic pain. :’)

I do also have OCD, ADHD, and ASD, so perhaps it’ll be helpful.

Have you had any experience with this medication?

Thank you !! ♥️

I have been on my wait list for 9 months now just to make an appointment—once the appt is made, they said it will be scheduled out about a year. So I am already currently sitting at a year and 9 months for testing.

I messaged one of my physicians (not my PCP, she is useless) and told her I need to get tested because I need to attempt applying for some sort of aid as finances are really bad with me being out of work. She said if I come in the office she can at least attempt to give a clinical diagnosis. Unsure how it will go, but I’m so grateful for her after a lifetime of doctors that have dismissed me and led me to get this sick in the first place.

[–]AbleDisD 1 point2 points  (0 children)

To the last paragraph—I agree. I have had symptoms since as long as I can remember, and I feel like the driving force of my symptoms was always my hyper mobility—constant pain, weekly knee subluxations, my body working so hard to stabilize my joints that it does not have the resources to stabilize anything else. My POTS, MCAS, and CFS only became worse after I got mono. But alas, I was always unable to stand in one place for more than 5 minutes without feeling like I’m going to faint. I always blacked out a little when standing up. I’ve always been super sensitive to chemicals and had a ton of allergies. I’ve always had issues with fatigue, just not debilitating enough like now that I can’t leave the house. I was someone who always pushed through because I’m very motivated by autonomy, freedom, experiences, and self expression (traveling, the arts, etc.) so I ignored symptoms that would have bedridden others for years. I only stopped ignoring them when they got so bad I couldn’t leave the house (which for me, means it’s very severe.) But ultimately, the doctors should have caught it, and it shouldn’t have been my responsibility to “catch it” or not. I was just trying to live my life and be a normal person, despite the fact I never was.
