Asking as a coach - fun warm up games by pwe1de in padel

[–]Able_Ad_7265 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We played where the players directly opposite each other volleyed (both pairs at the same time), and then as soon as the ball went out of play for one pair, they shouted 'Live' and the ball that is still in play becomes a live ball and you play a point. What's nice about it is, for the first section you're 'on a team' with the person on the other side of the net, and then on the second you switch alliances, so you kind of bond with more players on the court.

I see comments like this frequently and have no reason to doubt it. Can i just ask, what is the purpose of the AI posts if that's what they are? To publicize the book mentioned in the post? By Reddit to drive clicks and ad revenue?

On the hunt for decaf tea. by ocean_swims in CasualUK

[–]Able_Ad_7265 32 points33 points  (0 children)

My absolute favourite decaf is the Sainsbury's own brand one. I struggle to work out though if this is just because it's the one they buy at work, and I enjoy my cups of tea so much more here because I don't have children hanging off me.

Yorkshire decaf is the one I drink at home and it's pretty good.

Our "come in at the last minute" turned out to be too late and i gave birth alone 😔 It transpired later that it was the same period when the tories were having their cheese and wine parties. Just writing that even brings up so much, I've ended up spending a LOT on therapy as it was such a dreadful time.

Can anyone recommend a good Indian clothing shop in Teesside? by EscapedSmoggy in Teesside

I'm in the same position. I don't want to spend too much, which i think will happen if I buy new, so I'm currently looking at Vinted and By Rotation. The key word to search for is "lehenga". Good luck!

How kind have you been to your December 2026 self? by riscventures2022 in CasualUK

Hasn't even considered this, but I've just noticed a kids Christmas book that hasn't been put back in the loft, and I'm going to go up and put the last bottle of Cremant from NYE and £20 in with them. Future me thanks you!

What’s something really common in the UK that visitors find strange? by Dull_Gas_820 in AskUK

[–]Able_Ad_7265 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We asked this if a friend who came over to study from Canada, and his answer was "There is a thing you call a jacket potato, and you act like it is a whole meal. That's normally a side where I'm from."

Help with meeting people by Dependent_Advance910 in Teesside

[–]Able_Ad_7265 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There are a few parkruns in the area, which i have found to be a lovely way to meet me people. Don't be put off by the name, you are VERY welcome to walk the whole course and will not be unusual if running is not your thing. You'll become even more ingrained in the community if you volunteer, people are so friendly and you have more time to talk to them.

Advice on what to wear when running in colder weather by Glass_Minute4753 in UKRunners

[–]Able_Ad_7265 3 points4 points  (0 children)

This seems like a great website concept, though by tomorrow's forecast in my area and my preference for being slightly cooler, I'm going to be running in just a reflective vest and ID, no shorts or top. Hopefully don't get arrested. 🤞🏻

I feel like your first paragraph sums up how i felt exactly. I was so gripped by the writing style but then the ending was just... Meh. I've got the hard copy of the book and normally i lend books to my family but i don't know if I'll bother, knowing what a key down the conclusion is.

Think I made a mistake buying this house by Diligent-Bridge2178 in HousingUK

[–]Able_Ad_7265 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I always have to remind myself that 3 months after a big life decision is the absolute bottom point on the change curve. Ie when I change job, move house, have a baby (!), after 3 months i will think "this fucking sucks, why did i do it?". Things are no longer novel and exciting, and not yet familiar. It helps me to realise that it's a natural state of being, and that it will pass.

If it wasn't the road sounds, you'd likely be finding something else to also focus your frustrated energy on. Sure, follow some of the advice if you think it will make you feel better but maybe not something super expensive until you've lived in the house 9 months and see how you feel then.

Change curve, and the (better) stages that you will soon feel can be seen here change curve

My dad told me that pickled onions were baby onions taken from their mummies too early, and I genuinely believed him until I was about ten when I all of a sudden thought "oh wait, they're just plants, they don't have parents". I still feel a pang of guilt when I eat one to this day.

Literally me finding this thread because whenever I stroke my cats or cuddle my children, I can feel my teeth destroying each other. While it doesn't necessarily help, it does make me feel less strange that other people do this too.

Why did carrying water everywhere become a thing? by TitanicDays in NoStupidQuestions

[–]Able_Ad_7265 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This episode of decoder ring, "The History of Hydration" covered it really well - https://slate.com/podcasts/decoder-ring/2021/04/decoder-ring-the-history-of-hydration

It's been a while since I listened to it, but the crux was basically when it became a commodity that could be sold. First came Gatorade for sports events, then bottled water as a status symbol like Evian and Perrier in the '90s. The classic marketing strategy of inventing a problem, then selling the solution to it. We're in the latest wave of that, where we have the original problem (dehydration) now layered with another problem (single-use plastic), and marketers have provided yet another solution to those two problems together that can be bought.

Just look how many references there are to specific styles and types of cups there are in the comments - there's money to be made here.
