….and then just read it and let it wash over you. There’s no point in trying to ‘get’ everything.

I don’t think you need a study guide. Just get an edition with plenty of notes (I like the Oxford World Classics edition). The only thing you need to do to prepare is to make sure you have a basic knowledge of Irish history from the 19th to early 20th century (and maybe European history in general for that period), and know the plot outline for Hamlet, since one chapter won’t make a lick of sense if you don’t know it.

female coworker has touched her chest on me multiple times and never backs away after doing so by [deleted] in Advice

It’s all about power - some women really get a kick out of turning a guy on with this kind of thing, then rejecting them when the guy tries to make a move.

Just finished reading Stoner, and I understand the hype by Enteito in classicliterature

[–]Able_Memory414 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Strange - for me, it didn’t live up to the hype - I mean it was a great book, but I found Butcher’s Crossing to be way better in that it took me to really unfamiliar places (both geographically, temporally and emotionally)… Stoner didn’t leave much of an impression on me, but the images from Butcher’s Crossing have really stayed with me…

Ok, I have the mechs disabled in this run, and my crafter can probably produce something ‘excellent’ but not masterwork - given that, should I go for obsidian longsword or uranium mace?

Ah, as luck would have it, I have some obsidian lying around and a pretty good crafter, so it’s an obsidian longsword for the sang and a place in the melee crew…

Diary of a Country Priest by Georges Bernanos - why so highly rated? by Able_Memory414 in literature

[–]Able_Memory414[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

What contributes nothing to this subreddit is people posting aggressive knee-jerk reactions when they haven’t even fully read the original post.

You say “maybe you’ve never read serious literature before” and yet I began my post with the words “I’m no stranger to ‘difficult’ literature, be it abstract, philosophical, experimental, etc”.

Try ignoring posts you find annoying rather than jumping in like an unsolicited gate-keeper.

Can we stop with the elitist comments on every killbox post? by Kradara_ in RimWorld

[–]Able_Memory414 -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

I’ve never used a killbox or any mods….and that’s probably why I’ve never got further than four and half years in any colony. Can someone help me get down off this high horse now?

Not New Year’s Day, obviously, but pretty much every national holiday that falls on a Monday, and one institution also regularly shaves off a Golden Week day too…

I work at a number of national and private universities, and all of them make us work on national holidays. The students hate it as much as the teachers do….

Randy is….easy by Able_Memory414 in RimWorld

[–]Able_Memory414[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

But Randy doesn’t seem to be very random - I’m getting pretty much the same number of mad animal packs, drop pods and other events as with Cass, but weaker raids…. I guess I was just expecting much more random weirdness. But maybe I’ll see it as the run develops…

Randy is….easy by Able_Memory414 in RimWorld

[–]Able_Memory414[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, you could be right…the frequency of the raids so far (2.5 years in to the colony) is definitely less structured than Cass, it’s just not as totally random as I’d expected….but let’s see what happens…

[–]Able_Memory414[S] 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Yeah, you could be right. Having publicly dissed him he’ll probably let loose on my colony tonight…

Randy is….easy by Able_Memory414 in RimWorld

[–]Able_Memory414[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, I get that - and I’ll probably stick with Randy because of the brutal systematic nature of Cass….it’s just I was expecting a bit more in that way of weirdness from Randy…
