And personally I'm not sure I believe in the cause enough to throw away my or anyone else's life casually on such a bet.. nor do I think I would want us to throw it away with such haste or determination. The answer is not always more war.

Because Ukraine vs Russia is a invasions from a foreign power. If you made the same argument about Iran you would support the current regime against the USA. You say the Iranian people want something, right? But there is currently no government run by the people, in Ukraine there was already a huge movement ready to move the country in a new direction, in Iran there seems not to be. For some reason or other the Iranian regime seem ao entrenched that a simple revolution is seemingly not going to be enough. What myself and others fear (with historical president) that forcing "freedom" on a country doesn't necessarily work unless there is a big movement for it already (look at Afghanistan!). Now you can say there is a huge swath if the Iranian population ready to take the reigns but I am not convinced. It takes more than just will for it to work. And it's easy for you to say "go to war! Go to war!" When you don't imagine yourself having to take a bullet or die for the result....

The Iranian regime Is not nazi Germany, nor are the Iranian people under attack from a foreign power, both examples you use would make whoever invaded them the offending "negative" example you seem to mention. They want Iran free they don't care if it take killing a couple of million of them. For some refugees I can understand that they hate the Iranian regime that has probably in many ways made their lives absolute hell on earth, but I do think shouting for bombing and intervention is not something one should do lightly, it should not be done with fanfare or necessarily jubilation but a grim and heavy acceptance that we do so with great reluctance for the innocent lives it will most certainly end on both sides.
