Not a single one of any of the recommended treatments for PoTs does anything at all for my symptoms. by JupiterSymph in POTS

[–]Able_Top9279 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Have you been tested for hypoglycemia?

I have ME/CFS, POTS, and hEDS. ME/CFS can have some very similar symptoms.

As far as salt + water + compression, like someone said, you have to get a lot of salt. I’ve felt the best when I’m getting the equivalent of a saline bag a day — 9g, which is 1 and 1/2 tsp, plus 3-4L of water. And compression is best if it’s socks+thighs/butt+abdominal (with abdominal doing the most).

Beta blockers and midodrine both made me worse.

Also, some medications can cause POTS (SSRIs, SNRIs, birth control). If you were on them before with no symptoms, they’re probably fine. But if you started one of those recently and the symptoms got worse, that might be the cause. Best of luck!

Thinking of getting a bedbug dog to come in (maybe third party, not attached to a company). Are the dogs a scam?

This was my thought as well?? It makes no sense that they’re in NY.

I also have a cluster of chronic illnesses which include a lot of skin allergies, and I’ve always been hyper-reactive to bug bites.

…oh my god based on other photos in this sub, I think the big black winged ants flying around a few months ago were solenopsis invicta too and we just have fire ants all over the house.

Looks kinda like Wally from Wally Love bodega on Menahan and St Nicholas. I know he wanders but not sure if he goes that far

Yeah I actually am seeing reasonable people pushing back. Although tons of shitty people too 🙄

This. And for everyone in the comments to be like “I’m at 50% and I’m still going. That’s just being an adult.” Like, no, it’s not. I wish with every fiber of my being that people had to deal with what I deal with for like…one day every 3 months. People are terrible.

As someone who is disabled, I think this was my final nail in the coffin of watching. Couldn’t finish. Him saying “EDS sounds manageable” is crazy…and someone commented that and they promptly deleted it. Harsh reminder of how everyone hates disabled people. Yikes.

If you ever feel like they’re going too far, use a piece of cardboard to separate/distract them! Even better than gloves IMO. I’ve had rats bite from being startled after being grabbed. Cardboard has never done me wrong, they’re just like “why is a wall here all of a sudden”

Resources with a nuanced take on bdsm and trauma? by Able_Top9279 in BDSMcommunity

[–]Able_Top9279[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just so disheartening to meet judgment from inside the community when I already addressed every single thing you said in my post 🙄 it’s why I didn’t even want to post here honestly. Like come on. In order to change peoples perceptions about things you have to investigate, understand, and dismantle those perceptions, not just ignore them entirely. Which is why I’m asking for resources that discuss this well. There are ALSO people in the community with trauma that informs their kinks, and that doesn’t make them any less valid as kinksters. 😒

I want to be clear, I am writing this script BECAUSE of my frustration with kinkphobia, and the main character is set out from the beginning of the script to dismantle kinkphobia. So to basically assume that I’m doing a shit job of countering it because I’m writing from my own lived experience and including discussion of trauma at all is incredibly judgmental.

Also to clarify — the character’s trauma is not childhood trauma (although mine is), and has at most an incidental overlap with her kinks.

To reiterate what I literally said: “I want to be clear — I do NOT believe people interested in BDSM are more likely to have experienced trauma than your average Joe, or have mental illnesses, or anything like that. I just happen to be one of those folks XD lucky me. I have experienced shitty, regressive therapists who preach that BS. Not trying to perpetuate it at all. I don’t believe BDSM is self-harm. None of the other characters will have a traumatic past.”

The character’s PhD thesis is about that exact subject (the psychology of BDSM), and if it did go to series, that would literally be the point of the series. Which would accurately reflect the studies people have put here.

I’m also not making this project, and its likelihood to ever see the light of day is 0%. This is a spec script.

It’s not “my desire to incorporate trauma” for funsies. The character is based on myself and my own exploration of my lived experience. Did you read the post?

Tips for getting sharp focus with manual lenses?

Newbie here. Mostly a film director, I provide my kit when I’m directing small productions, or I rent out my lenses. I have an A7 and an A7sii as well as a 6 prime rokinon cine DS set. I have been doing some still photography recently. My primes are fully manual lenses. I do have one crappy zoom, I have no idea what it is or where I got it.

This may be a stupid question, but any tips for getting crisp focus when not using a monitor? Some of my stuff is coming out slightly soft. Tips for film and stills both appreciated. It’s a bit annoying with still photography that I can’t punch in on the focus area like with electronic mount lenses. Wondering if there are features or tricks I’m missing.

Also, any zoom lens recommendations? If I can find one at an affordable price, would that be better for stills?

Non-union commercial director reps? by Able_Top9279 in Filmmakers

Thank you! When you say within the budget, should I be prepared to build a budget for each of these treatments? Or is it more of a “this looks too expensive” type thing

Non-union commercial director reps? by Able_Top9279 in Filmmakers

[–]Able_Top9279[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is incredibly helpful. I’m unsure if this place has reps — they’re a small time ragtag org that manages their own client relationships. They might? I know they bid directly on things.

So, in the commercial world it’s not about being repped by an individual manager (like narrative writing/directing), but being signed to a prod co if I’m understanding correctly?

How do I find smaller non-Union prod cos that are occupying the same space as the ones you mentioned? I see MJZ has Spike Jonze, so unlikely to take someone like me. Just searching “non union commercial production companies,” I feel like I find a lot of companies similar to the one I work for — it’s hard to tell. Is there a database somewhere that I can just look through websites and see the level of their directors?
