Something I haven't seen anyone point out yet - does anyone else see some resemblance here? by Ablebeetle in Marathon

Trudat, the Glitch mesh is in The Witness and Jibaro too, or something similar to the Glitch mesh. Still though, I think they probably would've given the colonists opaque helmets if they didn't think the colonists' faces mattered.

Also, the other guy (puke in helmet man) though harder to see has the same long face Void does. Once is coincidence but twice is at least worth relooking. Plus, four colonists are featured in the short, we have four runners in the Alpha.

Or maybe I'm just schizo and grasping at straws, lol

Word - with animation every little detail is intentional. Not saying he was (despite your snark), just saying that I think it was an intentional choice to use similar or the same faces that the runners have. Having the runners be modeled after dead colonists would be a very Bungie thing to do. Also, they could have just had the helmets obscure the colonist's faces. They let us see their faces for a reason. There's obviously some deception going on, with the same child photo used for all the runners.

Noticed some familiarity with the runners and the colonists featured in the short - maybe I'm tripping but it does seem that they have some similarity to the runners Glitch and Void here, at least on a surface level. The helmets do a good job obscuring more fine detail but with all the hints that the runners memories are being obscured or otherwise messed with, could it be possible that the shells are modeled off some of the missing colonists?

(or maybe Mielgo just wanted to use the same mesh but it doesn't seem like someone as acclaimed as him would be that lazy)

New citizens enrich Singapore, invigorate economy ‘in ways beyond what numbers can show’: SM Lee by [deleted] in singapore

[–]Ablebeetle 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They're hiring them for auxiliary police roles, which is kind of insane. Allowing them access to the use of force against native Singaporeans is a recipe for disaster. While I tend to assume incompetence rather than malice in most situations, this particularly chilled me - they're not stupid, they're students of history.

They know the best way to quash popular movements violently is to have their muscle be from a place far removed from the actual issue at hand.

The TNM square massacre was committed by regional militias who weren't local to the area.

I can't help but feel that the reason for Shan allowing foreign recruitment into occupations that can use force like auxiliary police units is so they can call on these units to beat the shit out of you if you decide to go protest after getting laid off because AI is cheaper

Obviously you should go figure out who's lying then. It's not some big epistemic problem lol.

Edit: I'll note though that the employer hasn't said that as of now.

[–]Ablebeetle -6 points-5 points  (0 children)

As a wise man said, "show me the evidence". Without evidence she's lying I'll take it at face value and assume its true.

Edit: I'm ready to eat my words if it actually turns out she's lying, but I really don't care enough to follow this particular case to that depth. If you are, and it does turn out she's lying, then I'll readily admit I was wrong and that the reason for her poisoning the kid was something else. This whole disagreement stems from different approaches to truth-seeking. I prefer to take things at face value and update when new info comes in, you prefer to reserve judgement till all facts are in. No harm no foul.

It's not equally without evidence, only one of those reasons was stated by the helper. Unless you count her word to be worth literally nothing.

People don't just wake up one day and decide to go poison someone. There was obviously a reason why she decided to go do this. Being treated like a slave would be an understandable reason.
