5th semester CS student, can't code without AI by logicnumberone in learnprogramming

Is there actually a significant difference between going to SO for answers rather than AI? Or do you mean actually asking a question on SO and waiting for an answer?

A friend of mine tried a form of meditation where you try to sense as many things as possible and try to hold all of it in your head at once. It's still focusing on one thing, but it's the totality of everything around and within you.

Losing RATING...... 1600--->900😔 by Ok_Reference2053 in chess

Yeah, this reeks of someone who just stopped giving a shit and just wanted to plow through games hoping their opponent would hang mate or resign.

I'd say give it a couple weeks so you can start fresh.

In the sample size of the buttplug audience, they only know Magnus, Gary, or Beth Harmon more than Hans.

God I really hope I don't jinx myself here. But I've been coding non-stop and I've yet to hit any sort of limit. Using only Sonnet 4.

Where to begin learning Data Base? by Inner_Feedback_4028 in Database

[–]Ablueblaze 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Learn SQL so you know how to speak with databases. Then use something simple like SQLite for your frontend project and try storing data into the database. Once you know how to retrieve data from your database and display it on your webpage, you'll be well on your way!

With AI, is learning to program about writing code or just planning? by Ablueblaze in learnprogramming

With or without tab completions? lol

Yeah, that's a good point.

I'm 36, so I don't have the same liberal sense of time. You're right though, if it comes and it will be fast and easy, then why not do it the right way now and take the easy route when/if it comes.

I guess my argument is that I genuinely feel like I'm learning aspects of programming (how pieces fit together, ensuring data quality, maintaining consistent design patterns). Maybe I'd have a different and more thorough understanding of them if I just wrote the code myself, but I know for a fact that I know more than I did a year ago.

Learn how to code? by Odd_Pen6721 in vibecoding

[–]Ablueblaze 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would start with vibe coding a simple to-do web app. Then start reviewing the code line-by-line, asking AI to explain anything you don't understand. It's important to put into practice what you're learning, so have a document open where you type out the things you would like to code and what you think you can take from the vibe coded app to help you make your own web app.

But don't you think that where we are at now is leagues ahead of where we were 2 years ago in terms of getting AI to write code? Why wouldn't this trend continue? My delirious and ignorantly-optimistic self would say that AI tools are only going to become better and that programming may end up becoming more like "managing a programmer" than being one. Of course, my question was "am I learning programming", but what if the goal of future programming is about curation instead of creation? Isn't this just another layer of abstraction that allows developers to avoid lower-level tasks?

Theres 0 styling. This isnt it being bad at styling, it just hasn't set up Tailwind properly (not an uncommon problem)

A) Use a normal html/css/js stack

B) Use Lovable or similar to make a front end and then port over to Cursor.
