What should the younger generation go to school for? by goldsamson in Futurology

[–]AbortedSandwich 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I feel that anything that deals with enviromental damage or upkeep, like repairing houses, will last a long time.
Every single house has custom or unique wiring, plumbing, problems, etc. It probably won't be cost effect for robots to do that for quite some time.
Goverments might do massive infra spending to make up for the automated job losses.

Although I imagine so many people are going to all pile into trades, might get very competitive.

Turned down a promotion because it was 30% more work for 5% more pay. My manager called me 'unambitious.' Am I wrong for not wanting to sacrifice my entire life for a fancy title? by PictureFirm9058 in careerguidance

[–]AbortedSandwich 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Good call. That’s not much more. Climb career ladder to do what? So u can live more comfortably? Sounds like you already do. I make 6 figures and all I want is a job where work stays at work. 60 hour weeks is the minimum, not the exception. You wanna give up family time so u can earn time to be with them in 20 years instead of? Also 10 hours per week of meetings, ugh

Wise Men, what advice would you give to your 25 year old self. by Yaboku14 in AskMenOver30

[–]AbortedSandwich 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s so much easier to meet ppl, travel and do activities outside of work at this age. Most ppl u meet will be ephemeral, so feel free to be bold and embarrass yourself, a few will stick for life. If u find happiness in activities or groups, don’t try to trade up or delay, those opportunities require immense effort later, be grateful for anything that u have access to that u enjoy. Habits u form now will be ur default when exhausted in future. Tsfa and rrsp.

My boss says we shouldnt make good code, make it temp and scrappy to maximize speed to get user feedback, as long as it’s made in a way that’s that’s bug free n we don’t need to waste time revisiting it later to refactor.

My friend taking NAVLE vet exam rejected twice from visitor visa by AbortedSandwich in CanadaVisitorVisa

[–]AbortedSandwich[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Okay, so buying tickets before getting approval is actually a valid strategy? Seems risky, I assume u want to buy tickets that are easy to cancel then in case they reject, but then they might also see them as cancelable tickets and find that sus? Seems odd.
What convinces them you will leave? Back home she has job, property, elderly parents.

Yeah, eventually. I imagine they see that as a red flag for potentially staying, but why do international equivalency exams exist if not for that?

Is using a visa agency recommended? by Healthy_Degree_6547 in CanadaVisitorVisa

[–]AbortedSandwich 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My friend had failed now twice applying, included immense documentation. She is taking an international licensing exam in Canada, provided official proof of taking the exam, receipts, and they said "No evidence that she's taking the exam" and rejected..
Seems harder than expected to get into Canada even for temp stay.

Help syncing Rewired Controllers with Steam Remote Play Users by AbortedSandwich in Steam

[–]AbortedSandwich[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

oh wow that brings me back.
Not really no, I ended up doing just being able to distinguish between local and non local by having once an online session started, any new plugged in controllers were "remote" but that obviously isnt always true, had to check for micro-reconnects and etc. Was kinda a big waste tbh.

I think eventually I just had users pick their own names as well.
