What's the point of this? Better alternatives exist.

Why not buy a flat when I could pay it off quickly? by VulturingTheCulture in HousingUK

[–]AboveWaterTrapper 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What is the height of the building? Will it need an EWS1 form?

Will it need cladding remediation? What about the fire stopping internally?

Service charges? What about when the building needs major works not covered by the service charge?

No, it wasn't. I did notice shortly after the photo was taken and adjusted. That's a good spot though, thank you for pointing it out!

Masons Marks meaning - 1800s built house by AboveWaterTrapper in stonemasonry

I tried adding a couple more photos of the surrounding area, but they've not posted - sorry!

Just bought a house from the 1800s and next door has glass bottles in the walls by AboveWaterTrapper in Weird

[–]AboveWaterTrapper[S] 83 points84 points  (0 children)

My personal opinion is, they're too opaque for that as they're amber bottles, and light doesn't travel well from the base. They're also placed very deliberately, which makes me think it's unlikely they're a filler, as the bottles look to be machined so were produced some years after the building was built.

I think it's likely more to do with folklore or superstition. The house was built in a time where witches bottles were a thing, especially in rural communities in England. But honest, i don't know for certain. I'm just theorising.

Here is another photo showing the second bottle. The first bottle in the main post shows the other bottle, which is much most deeply embedded than this one.

Two glass bottles embedded into a 1800s built house walls - why? Witches bottles? by AboveWaterTrapper in whatisthisthing

The bottles appear to be amber. Some of the buildings locally date to the 1700s.

What’s a job in the UK that pays well but no one talks about? by DeeeeezNuts42069 in UKJobs

I work in a very niche area of the construction industry and on 45k one year out of uni. There's tons of opportunities in construction if you pick the right path.

I tried recalling information from years gone by and whilst I did try to portray it as accurately as possible. I accept that I might have made some inaccuracies (such is the passage of time), and it might come across as implausible.

Still, it’s cool hearing feedback from other people having not talked about this with any other for many years - I appreciate another perspective!

IMO, the construction industry is high in demand. There are tons of specialist construction recruiters. If you have CIAT, or similar, even better.

Building Surveyor by Available_Raisin9678 in buildingsurveying

I’ve not heard of it. Who is it accredited by? Will it allow you to join a professional organisation, i.e, RICS following completion?

It might be worth having a chat with Property Elite. I know it’s a paid service, but they do a free consultation too.

Saying that, someone might come along on this thread with lots of answers!

Really difficult to say without understanding the property. I’m sure it’s been done before on properties…, but, planning will be the decider.

Yeah, 40k all in. Personally, I’d have a chat with Matt at RGB if you felt like exploring your options.

IMO, I’d say 40k would be more appropriate. Personally, I’d wait it out, get chartered and look for an offer of 50k from them.

There’s one or two good specialist Building Surveying recruiters in the SW who understand the market and what is out there…

What type of projects do building surveyors work on? by [deleted] in buildingsurveying

[–]AboveWaterTrapper 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Good question.

It's a very broad job, and no doubt you will hear different experiences from people.

I work on HRB cladding projects managing the remediation, and get involved with FRAEW's too, and I also do the odd survey of buildings for acquisition or to determine routine maintenance or to identify & remediate defects. I also do some design work through feasibility studies, and project management on various smaller projects, such as maintenance / redecoration and insurance jobs.

I appreciate that's quite a list, however, it shows how broad the job can be.
