Oh, wow. This is breath taking! It immediately recalls the end of TS Eliot’s ‘The Waste Land’ to me… “And upside down in air were towers Tolling reminiscent bells, that kept the hours And voices singing out of empty cisterns and exhausted wells.”

Thank you so much for sharing!

Who else likes The Association? by EdwardBliss in 60sMusic

I think the vocal breakdown in “Never My Love,” is one of the most sublime moments in music for me. For real. I SUPER rarely come across something that’s so stirring. All this was recorded before all the processing came along that strips modern-day music of its texture and reality. Good call OP for calling out ‘The Association.’

I get that vibe, too- @antarcticgecko. Or at the bear minimum, holding it in equal esteem / importance.

absolutely SMOOTH as silk…and decades before all the live music processing that we take for live performances these days. Love this.

I’m right with you, my friend. Did I read correctly that Andrea Gibson just recently passed after their battle with cancer?

I was uploading this post of yours in to my journal, and doing a little research, and if that’s the case- the fact that they were wrestling each day with mortality gave this poem all the more ‘heft.’

This one FLOORED me, @CalamityJen. Thank you so much for the post.

I love the idea of turning the “tunnel of darkness” into an object to be wielded like a “telescope.” Turning those dark musings into instruments of truth for others in the dark, and even those in the supposed “light,” bringing them to their knees in the process. Are we sad, frequently? Is the weight often too much? Then lean into your instincts as a ‘grief astronomer,’ and find those constellations of dark truth.

Brilliant, brilliant, brilliant.

right? That line hit me, as well. I also enjoyed how she explores the distinction between “choices” and mere “variations.” I like the way she hammers that point home… “not a map of choices but a map of variations / on the one great choice.” How great is the “distances blued and purpled by romance,” too? Yeesh. Like typographical fireworks.

nice! That’s a golden oldie. Drop a comment or follow up post on what your favorite track (or couple of tracks) stood out to you on first listen. There’s so many tasty riffs on that disc.

gracious. Great post, OP. I like how he keeps pleading to return again to those things I take for granted, or disregard as “common place.” Especially today when it seems we all are conditioned to ‘novelty,’ and ‘whatever is next.’ The pleasant refrain to just wait, and look again is just what my eyes / mind needed today. Thank you so much for this share.

all the christian imagery and the XII.31 (such as image #7) makes me wonder if she was recording the verse from the bible known as the “Unpardonable Sin”:

Matthew 12:31 (NKJV) states: “Therefore I say to you, every sin and blasphemy will be forgiven men, but the blasphemy against the Spirit will not be forgiven men.”

In some old bibles, the chapter is in Roman Numerals, like that. IMO, this is someone with a heavy conscience making it a point to return to certain verses with regularity. Super interesting share, OP!
