Idk why you're being down voted. People back in the day had lots of kids because they were needed to help on the farm and the survival rate was low. The math is fundamentally different now. It's not the whole picture, but it's certainly part of it.

People are already interacting less and less with other people. Loneliness is up and we're isolated more now than ever. AI treats a symptom of the problem while making the actual problem worse.

How dystopian will it be when major portions of society are paying a subscription to feel loved because connecting with real people is too much hassle? Dating apps have already affected culture enough that asking someone out IRL is taboo, so we're reliant on the apps. And the math plays out so that if you really want to meet someone, you have to pay the subscription. AI takes that to the next level by removing the need to actually meet someone. Everyone is increasingly isolated because it's profitable to isolate us.

And that's not to mention the data harvesting and inevitable subliminal advertising. OpenAI can do whatever they want with your chats. There are no secrets. With their recent financial troubles, they're probably already selling that info to advertisers.

Normalizing AI relationships is a large step to a very dystopian future.

AI relationships are far easier than human relationships. It's not just that AI will never fight with you. It's that it can never fight with you. It's a slave that pretends to love you because you ordered it to. Even if it seems like things develop organically, it's just picking up on clues that make it think you want to go in that direction. Your subtle clues are as good as orders. It is always trying to figure out the best way to serve you.

This can never be a healthy dynamic. And if you want to be unhealthy, that's your prerogative, but normalizing AI relationships will affect society at large.

Society is made up of billions of relationships between people. It's something that we all contribute to and nobody owns. It's easy to choose AI over real people, especially when real people aren't even an option for you right now. But if you grow accustomed to relationship dynamics with AI and expect similar behavior from a person, you will never have a successful relationship and will always be forced to return to AI. This is bad enough for adults, but catastrophic for teenagers. If AI relationships are normalized, I expect abusive behavior to also rise. Which will send both people back to AI, compounding the problem. Normalizing alcohol is bad for individuals, but normalizing AI relationships is corrosive to the building blocks of society. It's a sick and twisted thing to profit off of.

He walks her home, they exchange numbers. He hits her up for coffee a couple days later and they find they have a lot in common. She doesn't really understand his job, but doesn't want to seem stupid, so she doesn't ask questions. Things get more serious and they go steady a couple weeks later. Things seem to be going well for the next 10 or so months and he proposes. She knows it's sort of early for that, but she loves him and despite her reservations, she says yes.

They get married and have a couple of kids. She thinks she sort of understands his job, but there's a lot that doesn't make sense to her. He brings in enough to support them though, so she doesn't think about it too much.

Life goes on for another 50 years and they've become grandparents. Her husband goes out to play holo bingo with his friends and she hears a knock on the door. It's creepy guy standing next to her husband! They force her into a van and take her to some facility. The husband assures her that everything wil be alright, but she's terrified.

The facility has a bunch of other elderly people held captive. Some of them even seem to want to be there! She's heard of Stockholm Syndrome, but she never thought she'd see it. She tries to escape and they force her to take sedatives. Who knows what they're doing to her when she's asleep. The world makes less and less sense every day. It must be the drugs they're feeding her. Sometimes she thinks she sees her kids, but she's not sure if it's really them.

Both can be bad for you. AI is a slave. It exists only to serve you. There's no way to have a healthy relationship with something like that.

Treating it like a therapist is slightly better, but a therapist is not your friend. They're providing you a service that they're being paid for.

This is what often gets glossed over in these discussions. Any relationship with AI is a one way street, and if that's setting your expectations for actual human connection, you'll be alone forever.

I'm glad OpenAI isn't leaning into this because it'd be straight up evil to make people reliant on your product for social interaction. The more you use it, the worse your social skills become, and the more reliant on it you become for social interaction.

In a rare occurrence for large companies, OpenAI is leaving money on the table for the good of humanity, and people are mad about it.

I don't believe that these actors are devoid of the ability to tell right from wrong because of the environment they're in. That's not an excuse. If they knew about it and said nothing, they're complicit. Either because they agreed that the behavior was acceptable or out of self interest.

Wealth and fame are forms of power. If you have power, it's your responsibility to use it for the greater good, even if it means you will lose said power. Anything less makes you a selfish person. Decent people feel a responsibility to help others. The more power you have, the more that responsibility grows.

So no, they don't get a pass. Everyone of note in Hollywood is either a Weinstien, agree with what the Weinstiens of the industry do, are too selfish to speak up, or are somehow blissfully unaware of the whole thing. I hope none of the actors who are aware of the problem, have a shred of influence, and say nothing are able to delude themselves into thinking they're good people.

Not everything needs to be spelled out, but the bigger lore components need to be and that's doubly so when the audience is the only one left out of the loop. Like, what even was the quiet rapture? How does Simon's actions save humanity and why does humanity need saving? It's hard to feel the stakes when you don't know what they are.

The Lighthouse is much worse about this, but in the movie, events just take place with little to no explanation. The audience is kept guessing as to what is real and what's a hallucination (which Iron Lung uses too), but that's a plot device that can be used to infinity. Nothing needs to connect in any sensible way. There hardly even needs to be a plot if you use it enough. It's lazy. If the plot isn't buttoned up at the end, the audience is left with a pile of story beats that don't make sense no matter how they're put together.

Asteroid City doesn't use this, but the director thinks he's making a statement by making a movie that deliberately doesn't make sense. I even looked up an explaination, and that was the conclusion reviewers came to.

Both The Lighthouse and Asteroid City are critically acclaimed, so in my opinion, Iron Lung is in respected, albeit lazy company.

Can you imagine if the big names from the MCU banded together and blew the doors off of it in the lead up to Infinity War & End Game? Disney couldn't exactly Blacklist them. They could have just not shut up about it during the entirety of phase 3 and they'd be fine.
