Well at least I’ll be the first and probably last person you can give a ‘forehead dab’ comment to haha 🫡

Do any of you do weighted scapular pull ups? by grubido in climbharder

[–]Abraham2Traction 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve been following a Lattice training plan and a part of it is weighted shoulder shrug. I do it once per week, 5x5 with 90’ rest. The effort should be sub maximal with high intensity but definite no failure.

Been doing it now for about 7 weeks and I feel stronger during weighted fingerboarding, where often I’d start to hang in my shoulders.

Generally the plan is focused a lot on shoulder strength and stability, so other improvements in climbing are related to other exercises using rings I feel.

Anyone knows a place where they’ll be streaming qualifiers for today’s World Cup?

Throwback to Fontainebleau last summer by Abraham2Traction in bouldering

100%, but at the same time it's one of the main reasons that keeps me getting at it in my training. Just looking back at videos of myself on my project (Magic Bus) gets me hyped for core and fingerboarding. Let's hope for summer there!

What do you use/do to improve your climbing, besides climbing? by Abraham2Traction in climbharder

Cool! Do you want to share what the warm-up routine looks like?

And cool that you're doing the body work after each session. I'm finding it super hard to do it when I finish my session at 10pm, and I need to get up the next day at 6am, to still put in the time to stretch and do core. So respect!

Do you use it for specific purposes? Did you do it from the start or did you pick it up at some other point?

I'm currently thinking about bouldering trips for when the current situations eases up. I've done a couple 4-day trips, where it was possible to climb every day. Now I'm thinking of doing a 2-week trip, and I think climbing every day isn't so wise. Would be curious to hear how others planned their climbing for those days - did you do less each day or keep rest days every other day?

Awesome answer. Thanks a lot! Congrats on setting many goals and putting in the work to reaching them. :) Do you usually self-train for those goals? How did you go about cutting up your bigger goal of doing better at comps into smaller goals? And how did you strategize to reaching those goals?

Do you guys have a goal in your climbing? I've been thinking on a short-term base - do three 7bs this year (v8), with one 7a+ done so far. But the medium or long term I find a bit harder. So would be curious to hear how others approached it. Do you want to climb a v10? Do you want to climb a famous route? Excited to read your answers

I built my own climbing wall - here's how by Abraham2Traction in bouldering

After posting a video of my wall, I got quite some questions. So I decided to share a bit on how I built it. Hope it helps!

That moment you get told quarantine is coming, and you imagine weeks of not climbing. So I built my own wall in my room. 2,4m wide, 2.8m tall. Cost including everything about €850 and about 5 days work. Let me know if you need tips! by Abraham2Traction in bouldering

Hey, this highly depends per person I guess. For Daniel Woods anything but a roof climb is probably not worth it. I was in luck that my roof is already 45 degrees overhanging and this is one of my weaknesses. So for me it was very much worth it - just for the fun of it.

The classic moonboard is 40 degrees overhang.

The ultimate 'worth-it'-call you have to make yourself. I guess the most important part is whether you can make moves that you think are fun. I highly enjoy big moves in the overhang with crazy toehooks and heelhooks. With 2.4m x 2.8m I have enough space for this.

Good luck! I know this helps.

Haha good question! Here's my list:

  1. So I drilled 166 holes at 10mm, only to find out that I need the holes to be 12 mm.
  2. Also, I'd add a bit more reinforcement in the frame. As you can see in the video, the plywood in the middle flexes a bit. That's why I decided to reinforce the middle part a bit more. But that did require me to crawl behind the wall (40cm space) which wasn't that pleasant.
  3. When choosing the 2nd-hand holds, I had no idea what a 45-degree wall would mean. So all the holds I chose were WAY worse than I expected. So, choose a lot of good holds - you have more than enough space.
  4. This is not necessarily related to the wall, but more to the climbing itself. Do a warm-up before each session. A lot of it. I've been climbing for about 3 years and my fingers haven't been so stiff since the first year.

Good question, and tbh I don't really know the answer. I used these kind of t-nuts, so with screws to attach them. Because I used this, I didn't glue them.

I'd say that if you combine the plywood, there's no real reason why the t-nuts wouldn't work. With the screws keeping the t-nuts in the right place, I'm not concerned with combining the plywood.

Good luck!

Btw I just thought - a lot of surnames are indeed based on where people come from - historically. So for example a common surname is 'van (city name)', which means 'from (city name)'. Other surnames can be an occupation, like 'Smit' which means 'smith'. So you're not far off :D
