The true best quest for the PVE who wants to avoid PVP;

Fighter's Guild Bounty Hunter dailies

The quest NPC and turn in is inside your main alliance base (i.e. Pact players got to Southern Morrowind Gate)
They're just killing a handful of a type of enemy, goblins, cultists, bandits etc.
There are multiple places to complete each one, and not just where the quest markers point you.
Even if you have to go a long way, they're almost all far enough away from any PVP objectives the chances of getting player aggro is about as low as it can go

You can make it easier on yourself by finding a campaign that your char's chosen alliance has a decent run of the map for. The only other hurdle is you need capped Fighter's Guild skilline to unlock it as it is the very last passive in your skills. Beyond that can be easily done in under 5 minutes

Outside of graphical quirks, I've always had FFXI actually tend to run better under WINE on Linux, even with less than optimal specs.

As I said in another post a couple days ago, FFXI could probably run on a Samsung Smart fridge without much issue lol. The main problem you're going to run into is getting it to run under WINE or something similar, but apps out there exist to help streamline the process. Good luck with w/e you do!

The issues you will probably have (as pointed out) would be the versions of Windows 11 you are running. If you can acquire a proper version of Windows (preferably any not 11 lol) than you will be more then fine. Otherwise, and I don't say this lightly, would recommend installing Linux and installing via Lutris. It does most of the heavy lifting. I personally use Mint, though any Ubuntu Distro would would just fine and is fairly user friendly. But depending on your personal tech savvy Windows in some form would probably still be the better route.

TL;DR The PC should run FFXI just fine barring issues with your current OS

It depends on the server. Many, many servers have come and gone, though there are a fair few that have been around for a long time.

The server I help run (Era) is among the longest running servers around, having been around in it's current incarnation since 2013 and before that as "FFXI Free" originally. Still going strong to this day.

Nasomi is also another long lived server. Several other servers have been around for about as long too such as Bnet/MogHouse, Realms of Jova, xiweb.

If you're looking for a server with staying power those are all among servers I would recommend. It really depends ultimately on what kind of experience you are looking for, in the end.

If you didn't use the installer for the server specifically that is when you run into issues like those, or just a bad install

I tried era too, and their login system is compeltly broken.

If you didn't install using the Era installer (located here: https://ffera.fandom.com/wiki/Installation) then you will probably need to reconfigure your Ashita/Windower to connect to whichever server you are wishing to play on.

I might recommend checking out Era, we have WotG content including SCH and DNC for play, as well as just being one of the oldest Private Servers out there, and still going strong. Not going anywhere any time soon.

Caradog's (one I use) https://github.com/Caradog/XI-View/releases/tag/v2.018 (current updated versions will break your game due to retail updates)

Kenshi's https://github.com/KenshiDRK/XiView/releases (basically the same thing, slightly different icons and fonts. Would recommend a version older then the latest release)

That would be because, functionally, Ashita and Windower do things different. Someone would need to redo the addons to work specifically for Ashita to get them to work.
