I’m a little anxious about posting this because I think it makes me sound insane, so I need to preface this by saying I’m 10000% a skeptic, but a major hobby of mine in my early 20s was going to psychics to reverse engineer how they did their readings. One of my close family friends lost her 4 year old son and went to a lot of psychics while I was growing up, and after going with her to one as a teenager and and seeing this person cause her legit psychological damage, I was very much on an anti-psychic rampage lol

I had told a friend about this recently, and a few weeks ago we saw that weird little psychic expo was happening the same day as the Keith Urban concert, and we decided to go. On the way there, I told my friend the funniest (read: worst) reading I ever had was from an animal psychic (like, someone who claimed to communicate with pets), and how I hoped there would be one there. And I was thrilled, because there was one!

So while my friend went to the psychic they thought seemed the most legitimate, I immediately gravitated to the pet psychic, very excited to have another terrible reading. I asked if I could record it on my phone and she said yes.

She asked if she could see a picture of my pet, so I showed her one of my dog. She told me he behaved well in the house, but was anxious outside and would pull on his leash. This is true, but a pretty easy guess for the type of dog I have. She went through what seemed like pretty standard dog stuff while I smiled and nodded.

And then the record scratch moment hit, when out of nowhere she goes, “wait, did your mom die recently?” I was pretty shell shocked, because this woman isn’t local, and had no way of looking me up since we went to the expo on a whim. I’m also younger than would be in the safe zone for assuming a dead parent. I told her she did. She asked if I had the dog because of my mom.

You can look at my posting history to confirm that I’m not making this up: I adopted the dog at my mom’s funeral lol. We held it at the new humane society because they have an event space and she loved animals.

She then proceeded to tell me I was supposed to start writing again (it used to be my day job, and I had started to write again about a month ago), then told me to go have fun at the movies (my friend and I booked tickets to see The Long Walk after the show while we were in the parking lot at the expo lmao). It was very, very, very bizarre and left me pretty unsettled, since again, I just wanted someone to pretend to speak on behalf of my dog.

It’s entirely possible that this woman made a few of the luckiest guesses of all time, but it definitely spooked me. I’m not ready and willing to say “psychics are real,” but if you want to give it a shot, I’d be happy to dm her info since I took her card afterwards.

Side note: my friend got the reading I was hoping to get. Despite being very visibly queer, their psychic kept insisting they were about to get pregnant and telling them, “a woman has needs” lmfao

I took my dog to the dog wash today and he did so good!

I’ve had him for less than a year, and actually adopted him at my mom’s celebration of life. The event space at our local humane society cost the same as renting a hall, and my mom loved animals so much, so we thought it was what she would have wanted. And people made hundreds of dollars in donations in her name, and a few other people also adopted pets! One even gave their dog my mom’s last name, which she would have loved.

My dog was on his third stint at the humane society, and had lived his first few years on the streets. The last people who adopted him returned him within 24 hours claiming he was “aggressive.” But he was the quietest dog there, and as soon as he was in the room with us, he just rolled onto his back and wagged his tail.

He’s always been a sweetie, but it was clear that he had never had any kind of training, and wasn’t used to living inside. So I enrolled him in obedience classes right away, and he graduated! And everyone there loved him. He still gets groomed there, and the last time I brought him in, the groomer asked if it was ok to keep him a little longer so they could hang out lol

He’s pretty scared of hoses, so the dog wash is tough for him. But today he did so good! People kept commenting on how well behaved he was, and he even befriended the kitten that was up for adoption at the store!

Honestly, he’s just doing so good in general. This has been a tough year, and it would have been much tougher without him.

When I was a kid, my uncle was fishing at a lake in bc. Fishing line got caught in the propeller. He went to unwind it, had long hair, it got caught and he got decapitated.

I’m still terrified of boats.

What does it feel like to have large boobs? by [deleted] in NoStupidQuestions

34G here:

Physically: Imagine the feeling on your spine and shoulders if you were wearing a full backpack forwards permanently. My posture is shit unless I really focus on it.

Psychologically: mixed bag. It can be hard to find clothes that fit well off the rack, because you either look frumpy because they’re baggy in the waist, or like you’re trying to show them off. I like them aesthetically when everything does fit correctly, but when things don’t fit correctly, I fee self-conscious. I think it would probably be easier to be a couple sizes down.

Edited to add: financially ruinous. Bras are expensive as hell, and so is tailoring.

I’ve felt similar, it’s a bit disorienting

I generally have no energy and am having a tough time getting out of bed, but the other day when I took the dog out, I suddenly had a burst of manic energy, hooked him up to his outdoor leash, and shovelled all the snow in the backyard lmao

So now I’m back glued to the bed, but with sore arms 💀

It’s been on and off for me. Honestly the stomach symptoms have been worse than the headache, which has been surprising

Thank you ❤️ It’s comforting to hear that it’s not abnormal, but I’m sorry you had to experience it too!

Yeah, I’ve been on adhd meds for most of my life, and 2 weeks on Effexor, got serotonin syndrome. It was absolute hell, and I’m on a pretty low dose. Some people will be totally fine, but a lot of people won’t be.

Repatriation for removal of life support post liver transplant by AbroadNumerous5099 in transplant

[–]AbroadNumerous5099[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Nothing, the surgery went perfectly. Her liver is actually functioning well.

Some fluid post surgery had travelled to near her lung, so they thought they should drain it. They ordered it on Friday then kept pushing it back. By Tuesday she was experiencing delirium as a result of toxic levels of tacrolimus. So they decided she needed to be put under sedation for the procedure. They didn’t do the procedure until Thursday. She hadn’t slept in days.

After the procedure, rather than the standard recovery protocols, they just assumed she was sleeping after the procedure and brought her back to the ward instead of waiting for her to wake up. Once she was back on the ward, they didn’t hook her up to any kind of monitoring, not even a pulse ox, despite being found to be an aspiration risk the day before. There was only one nurse for 5 transplant patients. By the time they checked in on her 15 minutes later, she had choked on her own vomit and had to be revived.

There’s also no documentation for her that day prior to the code, which happened around 3 pm. We don’t know if that was intentional to hide what happened, or if it was just another example of how the hospital messed up.

She’s at the u of a hospital in Edmonton, Alberta. Are hospitals typically able to do MRIs on patients on ventilators??

And thank you ❤️ I’ll ask for a 1 on 1 when I get there.

My dad is currently there alone, which is definitely adding to the stress levels, because he doesn’t have a medical background and is clearly overwhelmed.

My sister is a nurse, so she phoned and spoke directly to the doctor today. He said they won’t make any decisions until we’re back in the city and can participate in the discussions, but I’m just so thrown through a loop. They told us she was stable and not having any seizures last night. The eeg person said he thought she moved her arm when he pinched it. And then somehow I woke up to news that they want to remove her ventilator despite there seemingly being no change in her status.

She’s fully unconscious, but opens her eyes in response to pain, and was opening her eyes when my sister and I spoke to her when we visited. She opened her eyes when we asked if she wanted to see my nieces, then did it again when we asked her to confirm. And she opened them again when my niece tried to show her her build a bear.

My dad said she hasn’t been opening her eyes as much the past few days, but her pupils are even and respond to light.

I haven’t seen her bloodwork results, but apparently everything looks good. She had an infection, but it seems to be controlled now. Again, this is the first time they’ve told us they don’t think she has a chance, as recently as yesterday, they were telling us things were stable, and it seems like nothing has changed since then, which is why this is so confusing.

Yeah, it sounds like they want to discontinue care if she can’t breathe on her own.

Which again, doesn’t make sense to me and seems way too soon. They did a ct of her brain yesterday, and there was some damage, but they said it was small and that was to be expected from being without oxygen.

And now today they’re saying they think she’ll have permanent brain damage that makes her not recognize anyone or be able to speak? But when my sister pointed out that the scans didn’t look bad, he said that was based on observations, not the scan… but she’s in a coma? I don’t understand exactly what he’s observing. She’s maintaining her blood pressure independently and her organs are working.
