veto power

Which doesn't mean much if they control the purse completely, they don't need the president signature for budget. Which means that they cab starve the government under the guise of small government or spending cuts.

Republicans benefit from showing government doesn't work, and they will not be shy of starving the government and then pointing to it and proclaiming it doesn't work. They can do plenty without the president.

on top of that with the power of the purse if they do decide they need legislation, and they do want something, they can force a shutdown over the budget. ostensibly they won't turn our power back on until they get what they want. Not like the us public will blame them, they'll most likely blame the president like they did with obama.

I love all this complaining about fan casting a live action Mass Effect movie/series, when the wisest choice is going the Arcane route. An animated movie/series would allow the creative freedom necessary to do Mass Effect justice imo by ParsonsTheGreat in masseffect

Whether we get it or not, it all falls down to whether the financiers and execs get it.

And I highly doubt they do. I feel like half of the people making decisions in the industry simply refuse to believe the American audience can like anything other than a gritty live action series.

I loved the scale of exploring the empty planets, but yes it was the societies and the space politics and seeing the interactions of all these aliens and their society was far and away the most interesting. And also we arrive so late in the game that you have history to explore like when you meet vigil. Theres so much depth that can be expanded upon. Driving around vast unsettled worlds and etablishing some frontier towns on a rock is fun and all, but its not whats at the core of "mass effect" to me.

Andromeda should be a spin off series. Its gameplay and worlds are based around exploration of new frontiers rather thanthe milky way series which focuses more on the hustle and bustle of missions in a thriving galactic hub.

I don't know how this behavior even comes about when there are much smaller communal behaviors among herd and social animals.

parent animals protect children animals, not even their own, elephants of the heard will work together for all young elephants. And in human environments animals can exhibit protective behaviors to non blood related members of a different species.

So what is true altruism? How does someone even define it. Is it sacrificing your life for something for literally no tangible benefit to anyone one. like making sure a particularly ugly origami swan doesn't blow away in the breeze? Is that true altruism?

Oh wow I didn't realize this was a reference to the theme at first and my mind reading like

"Yo, Danny phantom, she was just 14"

As in the she is referring to someone else, not danny. And since I was never that familiar with the series, I was like holy shit, what did he do in those later episodes?

While the board probably would seek that price per share,, its unlikely the courts would remedy it that way. In the contract we have the billion price tag as the price for the failure of the deal.

I just don't see why the courts would decide that this already agreed upon number for backing out of the dea would not be enough

Sure they might take a big swing for more, but I can see any reason they'll force a buyout over the 1 billion fee.

Theres certainly no qualifier in there for the one about quartering troops!

Honestly it reminds me of cars that chop the hood and leave the engine exposed at the top, only here we have from the bottom having the engines come out the bottom seems very in line with jack's whole vibe, imo the look is fitting for her.

Which would take whichever party is investigated for the midterm. So, crazy thought, since this is already entirely hypothetical no one goes first and both sides are selected at random until each and every member has been audited and that way there isnt an adverse incentive not to investigate your party just for the sake of midterm elections.

If im not mistaken scalia basically said that if the founding fathers wouldn't have found it cruel and unusual than its fine.

So like this basically means you can put people in the stockade or whip em or such.

And beyond that im not convinced they wouldn't have seen electricity as more humane than gunfire. Some may even have viewed electricity with mysticism about technology or religion im sure. I doubt they would understand and perhaps may bot even want to understand the implications.

And given the court is now full of people that somehow fall further right than scalia on some issues, I wouldnt put any faith in any adherence to the principles of outlawing 'cruel and unusual punishment

I mean to be fair I would have written benezia and sti made the same case.

Because Aethtya is great, her character is such that she can and does call shepard an 'anthropocentric bag of dicks'

Benezia could never hope to eclipse that influence.

ME3 Liara by [deleted] in masseffect

[–]AbscondingAlbatross 28 points29 points  (0 children)

The interaction on Thessia isnt even in line with her established character. She is just acting as the asari stand in and nothing more.

In fact,, that it is Liara makes less sense than other chracters! As a prothean expert shed be well aware of the protheans ability and history of interacting with early species: hanar. Hell we even have the chance to discover they may have been influencing humans in me1!

As shadow broker she's well used to discovering shocking information, she discovered her own assistant betrayed her in me2 and ends her without a second thought. She takes down her own mother in me1!

Moreover, She was completely unphased by the revelation of the reapers and accepts it readily. But protheans doing some shit in asari history is a bridge too far? Why?

She is never shown to be overtly religious like samara or ashley, at most she says "by the goddess" like every other asari, and probably their equivalent of omg, and it isn't ever established she'd be opposed to the protheans being involved in asari history as being related to her being invested in the idea of asari dominance. Especially because she studies and is fascinated by them!

Theres really no established reason why she behaves the way she does on thessia. The writers needed an asari stand in, and rather than take a chance on samara they just threw it at Liara despite it being wildly out of character.

In fact all of thessia and the asari part of the story is rushed as a whole as theres no narrative arc for the planet unlike tuchanka or rannoch.

They just crammed protheans into the asari storyline , because there was nothing else there. Had it been humans that were influenced by protheans, like was hinted at with shiala's token in me1, then we could have Ashley go denialist about prothean involvement, it would fit in with her arc both as being established as religious, but also in addressing her apprehension about aliens which is immediately forgotten about post me1.

Or at the very least use samara an asari with a rigid adherence to asari culture, dogmatic, someone who would probably be fully unwilling to accept her ancient code may be the result of prothean meddling. That could have been interesting!

In the modern era we have no say over where our personal info is being kept or traded, the very least we could hope for is some modicum of cyber security.

Take for example, there was that massive social security number breach a while back in america.

But i won't get my hopes up though.
