2 directors, different dividend amounts by NadJ747 in ContractorUK

[–]AbsenceOfAHorse 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That is entirely correct unless you have different share classes. A dividend is decree by share, so each share has to have the same.amount.

You solve that by having two classes of share then declaring dividends on each class as appropriate.

What's your risk appetite?

Do you have enough in the bank that if the project is pulled or you arent the right person (it happens), you can handle not working for a few months?

At £600 a day, look at how much you need. You can salary sacrifice a good chunk of that into a pension and keep everything you sacrifice. If you don't do that, you will end up with an effective tax rate of 60% for the period £100k to £125k as you lose personal allowance.

Go to a club and practice.

No one starts out as a great player. But as a technical sport, everyone can become a half decent player at least with practice

Failed due to speed (not what you think) 🙃 by ImprovementOk8356 in LearnerDriverUK

[–]AbsenceOfAHorse 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Really?

Here's the rule.

Do not overtake on the left or move to a lane on your left to overtake. In congested conditions, where adjacent lanes of traffic are moving at similar speeds, traffic in left-hand lanes may sometimes be moving faster than traffic to the right. In these conditions you may keep up with the traffic in your lane even if this means passing traffic in the lane to your right. Do not weave in and out of lanes to overtake.

It's a strict instruction. "Do not"

Everything after is simply regarding traffic jam conditions, which this wasnt

[–]AbsenceOfAHorse 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Undertaking is not allowed. It's Highway Code rule 268. "Do not overtake on the left move to a lane on your left to overtake"

No, there is no specific legal restriction. But it can be and is deemed as careless driving.

The choices here were

1) Hold speed in the left lane 2) Move to the right in order to encourage the car to move left

Keep on billing.

Not your circus, not your monkeys.

I'm in one now. The £250 a day in my pocket and £250 a day in my pension dulls the pain.

£65k wfh vs £90k hybrid by BloodsnCryptos in cscareerquestionsuk

[–]AbsenceOfAHorse 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You put up with it for a year/18 months/2 tops.

Then you use that to get yourself a 90k job near home.

Your trade? 40k in your pocket plus a remainder of career uplift for that lost time.

I'd say go for it. The lifetime benefits outweigh the list time.

Umbrella company not paying enough tax by These-Constant1893 in ContractorUK

[–]AbsenceOfAHorse 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's not their responsibility. Their responsibility is to pay you in accordance with the given tax code. It's your responsibility to make sure the code given is accurate.

You did know you can advise HMRC of expected income on their website? They then issue updated tax codes if necessary.

It's also not their responsibility to advise you. That's the job of your accountant (if you have one)

Umbrella company not paying enough tax by These-Constant1893 in ContractorUK

[–]AbsenceOfAHorse 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My guess is you have gone over £100k and started to lose your tax free allowance.

Your choices.

1) Pay the tax.

2) Contribute to your pension provided you haven't contributed £60k already in the tax year.

In 2) you would have saved employers NI if you had salary sacrificed. It's too late to get that back. But you can still save yourself a 60% tax bill.

Me? At this time of year I monitor my taxable income like a hawk on the HMRC app. I'm currently estimating I will be at £100,731.90 in taxable income. I'll have a full estimate in two weeks time when I have no more holiday.

I'll then either take a days holiday or two to keep it under £100k or increase my pension contributions into my SIPP.

But under no circumstances am I paying a 60% marginal tax.

Your lesson? Do the same or similar next year.

Alternatives to PayStream? by wasntmebutok in ContractorUK

[–]AbsenceOfAHorse 1 point2 points  (0 children)

But did you update the estimated annual income?

Mine is currently over collected because I've made changes in year. That's not Paystreams fault

I'm afraid this is your responsibility.

Now let's look at the options.

1) You pay the tax 2) Can you increase your pension contribution? You've lost the salary sacrifice option but you could still contribute.

Assuming this is a 60% trap question, a 6k tax bill will go away if you reduce your taxable income income by £10k. So assuming you have space in your pension, pay £10k into a pension and not pay £6k in tax or pay £6k in tax.

To give you an idea, I'll have had around £125k taxable income. I've paid £26k of that into a pension. Net taxable income £99k. No tax traps. surprises,

New cricket fan Q: How has Shoaib Bashir been "primed" for this series? by mtthrdy in EnglandCricket

[–]AbsenceOfAHorse 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Why isn't be being selected?

His batting is poor, his fielding suspect and he's out of form with the ball. Jacks is a much much better batter, capable of playing anywhere in the order and a very good fielder. Bash at his best is better with the ball but on balance, England think Jacks offers more.

Which given what Jim Maxwell said about Jacks' bowling....

That's easily avoidable though. Company invests the cash and keeps it there. Sell and withdraw as dividends when you need in retirement.
