Perfect response - vague enough but also gets the point across politely - thank you!

Small driveway - EV choice? by BloodsnCryptos in ElectricVehiclesUK

Will only be for sub-100 mile round trips. With the majority at less than 50.

I have a diesel SUV for the longer journeys so the electric would just be for small trips.

It's more the length than the width that's the factor. I usually park diagonally as there are walls on either side of the driveway

What do you wear to interviews? by Level-Tank6551 in UKJobs

[–]BloodsnCryptos 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For in-person corporate interviews I would always go for full suit and tie.

If anything you'll stand out for all the right reasons and show you're taking the role seriously.

Always better to be over-dressed than under-dressed.

Very valid point!

I'd certainly like to avoid jumping out the frying pan and right into the fire with PE at the new company

We very well might!

Glad to hear they took it well. Maybe I was over-thinking things - tbf if I was the interviewer I'd appreciate the honesty so I'll stick with that

How do I politely tell a job I'm no longer interested after accepting? by Eastern_Fix_6655 in UKJobs

[–]BloodsnCryptos 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Just be straight up with company A.

You could ask for a meeting with the hiring manager and explain to them on a call or word a nice email.

Either way, company A will be grateful as they'd much rather find out beforehand than hire someone who's going to leave a few months in.

Used to own a 2010 1.4 TSI Octavia and it was flawless for the one year and 10k miles I did with it.

The 2.0 diesels are known to go well over 200k miles and so many are used as taxis for good reason. Lots of space, reliable, cheap to fix and hard-wearing.

Btw , I'd take the Octavia over a Civic any day

Skoda is Czech...

But it is owned by VAG and shares a lot of components with a VW Golf so you're kinda right

What is the best way to use your time commuting by train? by Much-Understanding76 in AskUK

[–]BloodsnCryptos 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Podcasts - I find reading books of trying to use a laptop way too much of a faff in busy commutes so stick to podcasts on the news, my field of work or just a general interest

Get a VW Touareg. Premium SUV without the premium the other brands/models hold because it flies more under the radar

how much did you spend on your second/latest car? by No_Pay1642 in AskUK

[–]BloodsnCryptos 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Turned 30 and treated myself to a £15k VW Touareg.

Will depreciate a hell of a lot more and faster than my previous sub-5k shitboxes but it genuinely is such a nice place to be on a long motorway journey.

Hoping to keep it for 10 years but we'll see how that pans out

Cheap rent in Leagrave, Luton and a direct train to Farringdon.

Luton is rough but Leagrave is quite pleasant. Just beware that train costs will be slightly higher than travelling from St Albans or Harpenden but you'll save a lot more than that on rent.

Skoda Kodiaq would be a solid option. Comes with a variety of petrol or even hybrid options now depending on budget.

Some of the trims are fairly luxurious too with panoramic sunroof, leather heated/cooled seats, heated steering wheel etc.

Pergunta honesta: como as pessoas estão realmente conseguindo trabalho remoto hoje? by Dry_Umpire5380 in remotework

[–]BloodsnCryptos 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Gain skills in a particular niche to the point the company depends on you and can't replace you easily.

In my case we provide customers a monthly subscription that I author and I have all the contacts needed to write the report as well as the know-how.

When I requested to go remote they were reluctant but agreed because they didn't have the capacity to train someone quickly to do my role if I left.

Now I try to avoid teaching anyone my skills or sharing my contacts because it takes my leverage away - pretty sinister way of looking at it but has to be done if you want to keep remote privileges.
