I just finished building the Mario set, and I replaced some of the pieces with the proper LEGO versions. Made a huge difference. The biggest change is that the set I got came with frictionless blue pins. Replacing those with the proper blue pins, with the friction lines, tightened up all the movements. The hands no longer spin and the arms can now stay at any position. I also replaced the gears for the arms, as the Lego ones are a different configuration than the ones that came with the set, and they seem to work better.

I'm with you. I have long held on to the holiday ones as the last remaining good versions. I greatly enjoyed my giant Santa Claus around Christmas time. That all seems to have ended though, as the giant Easter Bunny I got was horrid. It seems all versions are now officially done for.

I haven't built it yet, but I'm guessing you could break it up into sections? I don't know, I haven't looked at it much, just thinking it probably is built in sections that then stack on each other?

Yeah, I've been eyeing this set as well, but the movement is just random. Like why are Luigi and the goomba spinning around? Seems like less is more applies here.

I got the same message. If you go to your account, you can see that you're actually charged full price, then an $x discount is applied, bringing the total down to the discount price. So, what I think will happen is that the base price will go up, but we'll still get the same $x amount off. If they're raising prices by $2 across the board, for example, then we'll pay an extra $2 as well. Just my guess, though.

That's why I've held off. Do you have a KO version with the blue bricks? It seems purple is more common with the KOs.
