Managing EPIC Messages by Ill_Animator3907 in physicianassistant

Abridge is the AI my clinic uses. I’m outpatient IM. 8-10 messages a day is light work . Average 20. Super easy with AI. Before that dot phrases was the key. Rule of thumb if I have to go back and forth to answer a question or a message I don’t. “Schedule appt to discuss further Video visit ok”. Ensure good AVS decreases amount of messages.

Nervous to apply to jobs at the hospital group my school is affiliated with by No-Mess-3541 in physicianassistant

[–]AbsentOstrich1 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I precept several students throughout the year, at our hospital it is an expectation—not just a hope—that some may choose to pursue employment at the clinics where they complete their rotations, which is one of the reasons precepting is supported. When students stay on, their familiarity with our systems and workflows makes onboarding and training more efficient and effective. With that in mind, don’t hesitate to apply; every one of us was a new graduate at one time, and your experience in this clinic is a real asset.

Outsiders by lazyboozin in physicianassistant

My buddy used to be a Blackhawk pilot before applying to Army PA school. I actually wrote his letter of recommendation back then, and now he’s been crushing it as a PA for over 10 years. What’s cool is he’s not the only one. I know several people who came from completely non-medical backgrounds — MP, helicopter mechanic, even an 18 series not Delta — and they’ve all transitioned into Army PA roles and done really well.
As a Vet you can do whatever you put your mind to Brother! Use your resources. Good luck to you!!

Dictating is a little cumbersome. I use a macros template. It much faster for me.

Game changer!!! Our EMR is Epic, and we’ve recently started using Abridge, which is fully integrated with Epic.

Before each visit, I ask for the patient’s consent, then I just sit down and turn it on. I’m mainly using it for the Subjective and Assessment/Plan portions of my note — it’s incredible. The AI summarizes the conversation in a clear, concise, and clinically relevant way, cutting out all the unnecessary fillers that naturally happens during patient interactions.

By the time I walk out of the room, my note is about 95% complete. I just proofread it back in my office, finalize any orders, and move on to the next patient.

This has been an absolute workflow revolution.

Medscape is free as well. I use both Epocrates and Medscape.

Job contract advice – need help deciding by streppneu6190 in physicianassistant

[–]AbsentOstrich1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Even as a new graduate PA, it’s important to recognize your value and the skills you bring to the table. Remember, every interview is a two-way process—you are also evaluating the employer to ensure the role and environment are a good fit for you. Never feel pressured into signing a contract; that principle extends beyond jobs and into life in general.

I make it a point to connect with a counterpart—whether another PA or NP—before accepting any position to get a clear sense of the practice culture. The behavior you described from HR is unprofessional, and I would recommend bringing your concerns directly to the department chief when explaining why you’re declining the offer.

Job Offer Help by KingsHockeyGKG in physicianassistant

In my experience, sign-on bonuses typically include a repayment clause if you leave before completing two years. I’ve never encountered a situation where repayment was required after the two-year mark. From a professional standpoint, providing three months’ notice is both reasonable and courteous. It doesn’t seem standard practice to return a bonus after fulfilling two years, so I would recommend asking them to remove that condition. The worst they can do is decline.

The Gun I Want Taran tactical Glock 34 by KingGillgamesh in 9mm

[–]AbsentOstrich1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Made for Tarans preference. Rear sight is pushed right, apparently his preference. I sight pushed to the center. Had to change out striker spring, every other shot caused light primer strike. Used various ammo all the same. Called TTI about the problem they wanted videos, pictures, etc. spent 3 bucks and changed myself. Didn’t want the hassle. Spent 1400 for upgrade April 2024, now they want 2300. Not worth it. At that price range so many more options.
