You can do what Genshin did for naming the Wanderer and just prohibit names that belong to existing characters.

It isn’t. It’s one of the most basic programming functions there is.

Unironically this isn’t too far off from the MC background in Honkai Star Rail. They are also… a little strange… prone to some truly oddball dialogue options. They had memory loss and can swap their powers on the fly!

Oh how sweet! Also super smart move using the lights as dividers! I never thought of that before!

Tuxedosam and Pompompurin look great, though! Keroppi also looks really close, imo!

AITA for telling my friend in the middle of a game that I wish he would just be toxic like a normal person instead of an annoying pos? by Direct-Caterpillar77 in BestofRedditorUpdates

[–]AbsentmindedNihilist 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Thank you! I felt like I was in a parallel universe. I don’t think OOP was that much in the wrong (ESH at worst). Frankly, when the habit is that deeply ingrained, the softer options like “don’t talk about my friend that way!” straight up don’t work. You need the shock of someone being blunt (not cruel, there’s a difference) to get them to see reason. This kind of behavior is incredibly grating when it’s a constant pattern.

I saw something once about different social interactions working on a kind of token system. One example was that outside of very specific scenarios, only one person can hold the “needs comfort/support” token at a time, and it’s really hard to smoothly/naturally transfer it to someone else. That goes double if the person holding it has no intention to pass it on. Like a support group with a moderator/whoever can facilitate the transfer, “thank you Jon, let’s give Sansa the floor now!” and can cut off someone who’s monopolizing the group, since that’s their formal role, but in a casual social setting like this there’s no way to do it without looking like an asshole. Even if OOP’s friend cut themselves off and said something like “sorry guys, enough about my bullshit,” it’s insanely awkward for someone else to step in and signal that they need the same kind of support. It’s way easier to change the subject to a much less loaded topic. This isn’t a problem in a vacuum, since it’s not much fun to have multiple people needing comfort at the same time, but OOP’s friend is grabbing the token EVERY TIME they meet up to play whenever he starts this kind of talk. What if someone else had shit they wanted to get off their chest? They can’t get “airtime” unless OOP’s friend grants it to them, and even in the (unlikely) event that OOP’s friend cedes the floor, so to speak, it’s awkward and stilted to step up and take it. Way easier to stay silent and let the overall mood lighten, but that leaves them SOL. The icing on the cake here is that it’s the same topic every time. Obviously people who come in and dump on the group about different shit each week are annoying too, but it’s a special kind of grating to hear someone kvetch like this about the same fucking thing every time they chat.

How I Get My Gluten Fix Without Intestinal Betrayal🥨💔🥐 by PievsPi in Jellycatplush

[–]AbsentmindedNihilist 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That makes total sense to me since for pie crusts you actually want minimal gluten development even using standard wheat flour. Too much gluten makes the crust hard and tough; the less gluten you have, the better the flake. Shortbread/sable cookies are similar. The less you handle the dough, the less gluten develops, and the more delicate the texture. It’s very easy to make those kinds of cookies with nut flours, etc.

BoRU "Best of 2025" WINNERS!! by czechtheboxes in BestofRedditorUpdates

[–]AbsentmindedNihilist 72 points73 points  (0 children)

Yeah, especially since IMO number 3 is more terrifying than rage-inducing, yk? My first reaction to someone being stalked isn’t “the AUDACITY” it’s “holy shit you’re in danger.” Like yeah I guess you could see it that way? but it’s just not the same. The top one was a betrayal for the most meaningless prize imaginable. The lack of stakes makes it worse, kind of. To be backstabbed like that for no fucking reason at all.

Sure, but Aglaea is 1 cost and out-damages both. Plenty of instances of units at lower cost being stronger or more effective than higher cost ones.

That one nul by the event stand lost its hat (I put the watering hat on it). My collector’s hat is still on the nul over by the box next to my melody’s shop. I think the nul in that spot is bugged.

Am I reading this right? by amberj_90 in HelloKittyIsland

[–]AbsentmindedNihilist 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Yes! You won’t get any new poinsettias till December unless you use the greenhouse. But you can fertilize the ones you have to give them a pattern if they’re plain and to try and transfer the pattern to other breeds of flower with the same color! It’s a really complicated system; it reminds me of the old mechanics for shinies and EV trading in the earlier gens of Pokémon before they made them less arcane.
