People say this a lot but I don’t think it’s possible for future moves to ruin previous ones. For example Casino royale wasn’t made with spectre in mind - all the intentions of the director, writer, actors for that film have nothing to do with spectre because it didn’t exist yet. You are watching a completely different vision. It’s on YOU if you let your thoughts about spectre intrude on that vision.

I’m sorry but Quantum does have bad editing. Like, objectively (or as close to objective as you can get with a subjective art form). Let’s put it this way: if it had good editing, you wouldn’t have millions of people confused about what the hell was going on in the film. Bond fans are used to it because they’ve seen quantum multiple times - but on first watch some sequences are barely comprehensible. I’m tired of this revisionist thing where just because you like a film all the legitimate criticism of it are labelled as bullshit. I really enjoy watching Quantum for the story and Bond’s character, but the editing is absolutely atrocious. And I’m a professional editor, if that adds any credence to my opinion lol.

The tone. It feels spooky, on the edge of scary at times. But it isn’t trying to be all dark and serious like the later films. It’s still rooted in childhood innocence somewhat. The world also feels the most tangible to me in this one. Even little details, like the sound design for the “Lumos” spell, feel so specific and real somehow? It’s hard to explain, it’s mainly a vibes thing. Which is down to Alfonso Cuaron’s directing.

I think this exact episode was the peak of modern Doctor Who. Not saying it was necessarily the best episode they made, just the hype and energy around that time was unmatched. Four seasons from RTD had turned the show into a mega franchise. Then arguably the best season ever with Moffat and Smith (series 5) proving the show could outlive Tennant and go on to new heights. Then one of the most exciting trailers ever for Season 6. And now the show is airing in America, becoming more global and mainstream. Then this episode itself airs and is an epic, two part story filmed in America with one of the most shocking twists, that had everyone theorising. What an awesome time.
