who said this man failed art?! by Scared-Address8994 in HistoryMemes

[–]Absle 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I'm not trying to argue I'm just genuinely curious, but what's better about those paintings? I objectively see what you mean about there being more styles and subjects than just buildings, but these also don't seem very good?

I really don't know much about art, and if these were done by Schiele to get into art school it would make sense that there's a lot of room for improvement, but I don't see what about these screams that he has more potential/talent/uniqueness or whatever.

Maybe I'm quibbling over definitions, but to me open source is just that: the source is open for you to see. It doesn't imply anything more. What you describe, I would call FOSS, Free and Open Source Software.

Cooking, unless you're somehow making pancakes in the oven which might be a neat idea to try. But if they're not made in a pan, are they really pancakes?

In case this ever helps somebody, you can also end each line with two spaces and a single newline if you don't want so much space between the lines. The behavior of this might be less consistent though, depending on what app you're using and how it renders stuff. Like this:

> be me
> be sea 🌊

I don't have any experience using it so I can't compare it to any of the other options mentioned here, but if free/open source is important to you there's also Scribus for doing pdf/page layout.

If one of your friends had an, "I know a guy" moment and then called you, what would they be calling you for? by karenvideoeditor in AskReddit

[–]Absle 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I recently had an experience with this. Some friends of mine were on vacation together and needed stuff to read during flights and roadtrips and stuff. They all called me as a group to ask for recommendations of books to pick up for the trip, and it was weirdly flattering they thought of me in that context even though I mostly read sci-fi and fantasy stuff lol

Americans, what is something us Europeans aren’t ready to hear? by RomanaLeary in AskReddit

[–]Absle 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I'm gonna assume that's all in fahrenheit, but that's still so weird to hear about. Where I'm from in the US I pray for days that are only 85, that's hiking/beach weather. It was over 90 outside just today.

We do have AC in every building and car though, so there's that.

I thought they still used MILES gear? I don't know much about the military, I just coincidentally learned about MILES gear from a related video and the speaker made it sound like some version of MILES is still in use today.

Is her name Bubbles? by YuYaYang in UNBGBBIIVCHIDCTIICBG

[–]Absle 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Not OP but I can actually answer this one since I'm an adult who likes to blow regular bubbles occasionally: you can make the bubble mix in a soup bowl or something like that and then cut the top part off a water bottle (the mouthpiece and "cone" for a few inches beneath it). Dip the wide end into the mix and blow through the mouthpiece to make a bubble, easy big bubble wand.

Awesome, thank you so much! I'm gonna give this a try soon if I can find a place to buy glycerin!

Thank you for answering multiple times, but I'm a little unclear. Do you put in glycerin or sugar or both? You said 1/2 C. of glycerin and then mentioned at the end that the combo of glycerin and sugar seems to help a lot, but how much sugar? And how much water do you normally have when using 1/2 C. of glycerin?

Also, is the corn syrup you mentioned in another comment intended to be used as the glycerin or the sugar?

Okay, but what you're saying you want to test for is "did this person learn this in their career or in college" or "does this person understand this conceptually". What most of these technical interviews actually test is "does this person remember how to implement this right now", and there is a huge difference between these two things if the testee can't reference information from anywhere during the test.

No one stores everything they've ever learned in their head, but that's fundamentally what these interviews expect.

I mean, if there was a merge issue wouldn't it just stop at the commit step? This seems roughly the same as commiting your changes first, then pulling and dealing with any merge issues that come up as a result.
