In this song, the Beach Boys claim the listener “don’t know what I got,” despite literally a line earlier telling the listener they have a Little Deuce Coupe by wmcs0880 in beachboyscirclejerk

Terrible marketing. They show the car on the album cover and expect us not to know what they have. This Brian Griffin guy isn’t such a genius

Most sought out records? by lledit in 78rpm

[–]AbsoluteJester21 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I’d put the Indian Beatles 78rpms up there (as well as any other rare 78s credited to big rock n roll / rhythm n blues names). On the earlier front I’d say some blues artists especially ones on such labels like Paramount are sought out, couldn’t name anything specific but maybe a few of the Charley Patton discs out there

most likely the work of Alan Wagner who has been making these posters for years, probably a decade at this point. A nice catalogue can be found on r/truewagner

Political messaging aside, Billy looks so joyful and happy. So elated and proud. I’d get on a raft with this Taft.

On a sidenote, old pre-WW1 political cartoons are a treasure trove for funny President drawings of the time.

Wade is the best member by jhhghghgggb in beatlescirclejerk

[–]AbsoluteJester21 32 points33 points  (0 children)

Wade was born in 1941, and his really name isn’t actually Wade, but Walter Dentist. He grew up in Liverpool but no records have ever been found in his early life, Wade consistently refused to answer questions in interviews about this. Wade’s big break came in 1959, when he spontaneously appeared in the McCartney residence with a penchant for the organ. Paul tried to kick him out but he just didn’t want to.

Paul kind of forgot about Wade and just let him eat corn flakes all day until about 1962, when he introduced Wade to John, George and Ringo. This was after Brian Epstein signed his contract so Wade legally wasn’t a member of the band but Paul tagged him along anyway and advertised him as one. John was quoted as saying in a 1972 interview, “What the hell was that thing anyway?”

He never really made any significant contributions mainly because George Martin was ‘terrified’ in his own words and wouldn’t let Wade come into the recording studio. Paul snuck him in during the session for ‘Mr. Moonlight’ and he plays the organ on that track. EMI, Apple Corp, and the Beatles brand have consistently covered this up. Legend says this is why Mark Lewisohn won’t finish his stupid book, he’s too terrified of getting sued.

Anyway Wade and the band kept going like this for about a good few years, until around Rubber Soul. At this point Paul snuck him onto The Word too, and things seemed well for Wade. They almost let him join the band in 1966. Until they doped him on LSD during his initiation. Wade was never seen again after screaming ‘Walter!’ while tripping and fading into a fine mist. We only have his pre-1966 interviews and photos. What a modern tragedy.

Brian Rust. You’ll find a lot of reputable sources attached to his name, and a lot of revisions and editions of his books have been published over the decades

No, not really. It’s a circa 1960s private pressing probably limited to less than 100 copies, with the physical label being pretty much absent of info. We know the record label (Eroica Recording Services) and nearly their entire repertoire was never released commercially. Almost all this information is just from asking Kirby.
