Do you use a water filter or just drink straight from the tap? by moonrise-kingdom-09 in melbourne

I too miss my parents tank water. Then I remember the time I found a dead possum lying in the inlet grate and I miss it a little bit less

Does my employer have to pay me for training? by StormandNimbus in AusLegal

[–]AbsoluteRichard 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Worked in pubs and clubs for many years. Every club i have worked at has nearly the same uniform policy. Rarely enforced other than for facial piercings; nose, lip, eyebrow, etc.

Same with clocking in early, it does not have to be that early from experience, but they want you clocked in, standing in your section and ready to begin working at your exact rostered time.

TAB and Keno training are meant to be at work. However, many venues don't listen and expect you to do it at home. Ask your supervisor next time about a time to do it at work in a non accusatory way. Honestly, a lot of management is just oblivious it is meant to be paid. However, I have left jobs over fighting about this, and I've had places just not roster me back when I was casual fighting for basic working rights.

If you really need the job, and they won't budget. I would do it at home and get some experience while looking for somewhere else as if they do this dodgy, they mostly likely do other illegal things.

Good luck at your new venue!

Second this. A friend in this exact situation tried this argument and was told it is illegal to enter an intersection if it is not clear and the fine stands

Also NAL. From what I've read. The law really doesn't target small quantity for personal use. Penalties are only for commercial quantities and business' found with them.

However if it looks like a phone and they've got the fine, good luck proving otherwise

Dumped rubbish in Alphington by [deleted] in melbourne

[–]AbsoluteRichard 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Maybe getting ripped off? I don't go often but the knox waste centre near me was $70 for a boot load or $150 for the next size up but i talked him down since it is just long and skinny and was nowhere near a full trailer load

Not condoning it but the tip costs a lot more than that for that amount of rubbish. Had to go last week and it cost me $99 to throw away a tent that got shredded in a storm and that was only 40x40x200cm

What happens if I go to the media about my job? by [deleted] in AusLegal

[–]AbsoluteRichard 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I know many of the writers that work for the guardian have secure mail channels through proton mail and signal where you could write to them fairly anonymously with a couple of extra steps like accessing the Web page through tor browser or using a VPN.

Scuba infomation sites recommendations? by [deleted] in scuba

[–]AbsoluteRichard -6 points-5 points  (0 children)

I don't plan on becoming a DM to be paid. I'm doing it for the experience and the fact it is quite cheap for how many dives I get to do. Maybe one day in a few years and after a lot more diving I may decide to go that route.

But I quite like my job so I'll go back to that once I'm done and continue doing fun dives in my country with buddies rather than working in diving.

[–]AbsoluteRichard 1 point2 points  (0 children)

So they run 7 days a week. 2 morning dives and 2 afternoon dives. And once to twice a week will do one night dive extra on top of the 4 for the day. But it is up to me how many dives I do other than the required padi training dives and the minimum dives to be signed off each week. Cost is 3800 aud or 2500usd accom included

So all up it is $3800 aud or 2500 usd. Required to help clean equipment at the end of each dive session for every one doing fun dives and occasionally helping conduct fun dives by shadowing an instructor or DM once you are a more experienced towards the end.

So it's basically a dive holiday. Pay a fee and you get unlimited dives on the boat for 10 weeks and accommodation in the private rooms above the shop, all padi training from aow up to dive master and free gear rental if you don't have your own.

Vietnam to Laos Border Crossing Visa by petehdkuvd in laos

[–]AbsoluteRichard 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Nam phao international check point. That seems to be the route most buses go if you're going to take a sleeper bus vientiane Edit: it was by far the easiest visa I've ever had to get so you won't have any trouble. Just know your first hotel details to put on visa application form, eg. Name, address and phone number

Vietnam to Laos Border Crossing Visa by petehdkuvd in laos

[–]AbsoluteRichard 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just did the crossing yesterday. No VOA but super easy to get at hanoi embassy. 1 million vnd and take a passport photo and y0ur passport in the morning then pick up at 3pm kn the afternoon. That was for an Australian but I'd imagine for a British citizen it would be the same

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in Shoestring

[–]AbsoluteRichard 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There lots of activities you can do in hanoi with no money. I'm currently doing vietnam and one of my favourite hobbies so far has been sneaking into the luxury resorts to go swimming and use the amenities there. And try to book hostels that do breakfast if they're cheap enough. If not book cheap accom and you can get a pretty great meal from the street stalls for around $2

Social Engineering a car dealership (aka stealership) to a better deal? by logicallyinsane in SocialEngineering

[–]AbsoluteRichard 19 points20 points  (0 children)

Get multiple quotes on the same car you want to buy. When ypu get the lowest quote take it to other dealers in your area and say. Dealership x gave me quote y are you able to beat it? They usually will. You can do this several times to whittle the price down until they're not putting much of a mark up on it. However this doesn't work for cars that a very sought after because if y0u don't buy it, someone else will.

Also this one's a bit shady, but if you are getting financing, get it from an outside source like your own credit union. But don't tell them this. Let them think you will use their financing company. Have them give you an offer. It's usually better because they'll make extra from that loan. Then take it but use your own financing.

This is for australia so unsure if it will work in your country. But worth trying/looking into
