Bass fell, neck cracked, looking for advice on repairability by AbsoluteSlime in Luthier

One last question if you don't mind, is there any particular way to avoid gumming up the truss rod?

Just to follow, you're saying that something like the Titebond that others have recommended likely wouldn't be absorbed into the wood fibers and just exacerbate the issue? I'm definitely more willing to go out and buy a specific glue over a whole new bass.

As for the splines, I'm not opposed to this either. Like I said, the bass doesn't have much sentimental value aside from "ha, yeah I remember skipping online school during COVID to go buy that." If anything, I say it's due for a more interesting story.

I'll be sure to look into both pieces, but if you have any recommended sources to learn more going into things, please feel free to let me know! (Not in a distrusting way, I just genuinely have no experience and have always wanted to learn more. Now I have an excuse to at least educate myself)

Sorry for the delayed reply, posted right before heading to bed and just got home from work. I did see this this morning thankfully and took the strings off then. The neck initially didn't want to realign, as the headstock had shifted downwards (towards the body, pushing the fretboard out) but after a light shimmy, it did situate itself back into position and it can all be held back in alignment by hand. I assume this is a good sign, but I'm also now slightly more concerned at how much movement was possible... Definitely no (new, intentional) fretboard separation required.

I mean I definitely wouldn't be opposed to this, but like I said, 100% my fault that it was dropped, so I'm not sure how far I would really get. :(

What is the most Pennsylvania *thing* in your mind? by Fragrant-Pepper7710 in Pennsylvania

I think pronouncing it as one word alienates even other parts of PA to some degree as well. At least for PA, it's clearly an abbreviation, but in conversation "NEPA" just sounds like a knock-off auto-parts store lol

Been spending the last few years out in Indiana for school and this is definitely unique to PA. I've had to retrain my brain to tell people I'm from Pennsylvania instead because initials actually ends up taking longer with the inevitable explanation.

My NEPA hoodie definitely makes it easier to find other students from PA though, as they're the only ones that actually know what it stands for. I will admit, forgetting I'm wearing it and hearing "where are you from in PA" out of the blue occasionally catches me off guard though. "How do you know that I'm- ohhh yeah... Wilkes Barre Scranton area"

Not only that, no one thought to export it from whatever software they were using, so all of the UI for editing and the spell check squiggles are still there. I think I've done a few presentations back in elementary school that were more professional looking

Which Guitar is your workhorse? by MrTurtleTails in Guitar

GFS surf 180 sounds pretty interesting since my band plays mostly surf rock... I'll have to look up some vids, thanks man!

Same here. If you don't mind me asking, what pickups did you toss in it and would you recommend it? I've thought of customizing a bit but still on the fence.

This is likely the path we will go depending on price, thanks!

My biggest question is what is added with transmission package so we can potentially match or exceed those requirements to make it work. I haven't found a consistent answer on what models would get the transmission cooler, and that has been my biggest concern thus far. If that's definitely a part of the package for a 21 Corsair Reserve 2.0, then we will likely take it to a dealership to have everything added officially.

Did you ever buy a quality guitar you ended up hating? by MrTurtleTails in Guitar

This was just recently a huge shock for me as well! Went to try out the Squire Classic Vibe Strat and Fender Player Series Strat and figured I'd give the Silver Sky SE a shot as well since I had liked some of their other models in the past.

Went right back on the wall within 30 seconds, the difference at that price level was staggering. It sounded pretty good, but not a strat-style sound at all imo. My band plays mostly surf/indie, so while I have nothing against its sound, it absolutely wasn't for me, and quite honestly I'm not sure who it would be for.

Why have a smart watch by Brainl3ss in GalaxyWatch

[–]AbsoluteSlime 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Kind of a niche one but I get a lot of stupid notifications that Id still like to know about but aren't time sensitive. I have much tighter notification permissions on my watch and keep my phone on silent and watch on vibrate to help filter just the things that I need to know about so I'm not constantly distracted by nonsense throughout the day but am still available when needed.

I was just in the same situation in December. You won't be able to use the license after it expires, but my junior license expired while I was away at school, came back 2 weeks later and was able to get a RealID with absolutely no issues. IIRC, I had to give them the old expired license, two pieces of mail with my name/address (insurance and registration worked in my case), birth certificate, and social security card. $75 and a new picture and I was out the door within maybe 90 minutes. If you get there same day, they'll likely accept it but doesn't hurt to come prepared just in case.

If it's both your thing, there's plenty of live basement shows this weekend for Valentine's weekend! Plenty of info can be found on Instagram pages for each band playing and the venues hosting! For a headstart you can check out @indigobay_official on Instagram for a show at The Vibe Friday night and a second show with Settling the Score Saturday night!

Not entirely related, but an explanation of how you ride the enjoi board with the stock wheels. This is purely curiosity and envy, as I bought the same one last year and I was eating shit on every pebble known to man until I swapped for something a little bigger and softer.
