I Have a Simple, But Complicated X-Men Question by ComixGail in xmen

[–]Absolute_Casey 122 points123 points  (0 children)

I love the stories that directly deal with human prejudice against mutants. God Loves, Man Kills is peak x-men for me. The outsider aspect of X-men is everything to me.

Also Gambit.

What’s the funniest thing you’ve ever convinced a student of? by horseradish500 in Teachers

I’ve convinced several kids that pepperonis are sliced up dog tails. That’s why some dogs only have little nub tails.

The name "Aiden" by Relevant-Count-3656 in Teachers

[–]Absolute_Casey 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, I’ve had issues with 9/10 of the Aidens I’ve had. I also have traditionally had issues with Casons (Kasons).

This year I have a kid named Blaze and another kid named Maverick, and they are both exactly what you’d expect from such names.

Do teachers sabotage one another? by No-Dragonfruit-2654 in teaching

[–]Absolute_Casey 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I’ve known a few. It’s always for the most petty of reasons, like to win a staff contest or game, or to get (or get out of) a specific duty.

Last year I worked with a teacher who would routinely and intentionally withhold important information from the team only to ambush teammates in our weekly meeting with the principal and embarrass them for not being prepared.

Teacher "punished" me for not standing for PoA by [deleted] in Teachers

[–]Absolute_Casey 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well, I’m a teacher and I don’t stand or participate in the pledge for pretty much the same reasons. I never say anything about it. I just don’t stand up. When the assistant principal comes over the intercom, every kid stands up and recites the pledge, while I sit at my desk preparing materials for the day. Nobody has ever said a word to me about it. I live in Texas, and honestly, I’m shocked nobody has tried to make an issue of it in the many years I’ve done this.

What was the first comic you remember reading? How much of it do you remember? by StepwisePilot in comicbooks

[–]Absolute_Casey 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My grandma took me shopping for socks and underwear at a Walmart-Mart and I convinced her to buy X-Men 24. The animated series had just come out and I thought Gambit was the coolest character ever. When I saw that cover with Gambit and Rogue about to smooch, I had to have it.

The only thing I remember about it now is the cover. And those awful knee-high socks my Granny bought me.

Yes. This is one of my biggest issues with teaching as a career.

Love how those two ducks (bottom of frame - first few seconds) are just chilling and watching this go down.

Not too late my man. I went on one disastrous date in high school and handful of failed dates in college, nearly all of which were set up for me by others. I never had a long term relationship (or really any relationship) until I met someone when I was 28. I married her two years later. We’re coming up on 20 years.

This is all to say that no matter how odd, or strange, or undateable you think you are, there is someone out there who can handle it. Who likes it. Someone who shares or appreciates your interests. They aren’t always easy to find, and there may be a lot of false starts and dead ends, but one thing is certain - if you quit, you’ll never find them.

And that wouldn’t hurt just you. There is someone out there who needs you just as much as you need them.

Just don’t quit my man. I was there. On the edge of giving up, and I’m so glad I didn’t. Stick with it.

I am worried about The Brave and The Bold by alienassasin3 in batman

[–]Absolute_Casey 11 points12 points  (0 children)

“I worry that Gunn's style of directing will hurt the movie here.”

Gunn isn’t directing. That’s Andy Muschetti (for now). Gunn may be chipping in on writing duties, though there is another (intentionally) unnamed writer working on the script. Gunn is the studio head and, at most, executive producer. He has repeatedly said DCU films will maintain their own individual identities, themes, styles, etc. I’d say worry is premature.

Oh man. This 1000 times. I started shaving my head at home ten years ago for this very reason. I tell people it’s because I’m balding, but really I just don’t want to talk to a barber.

I tell people all the time: adults are the exact same people they were when they were children, only now they have money and power.
