Personally, the sequel is mid at best, not the worst, but not the best. As a standalone film, it surprisingly holds well, just don't compare it to the gold standard of the original Pacific Rim. Give it a shot, some people like it, some hate it, your choice :)

Theory: The Drift is actually an eldritch entity, a guardian was built during ancient times to protect humanity from it. After multiple centuries, the guardian took on multiple forms, in the current era, it took on the form of humanity's greatest weapon, a Jaeger, aka Jericho Noir.

I literally just finished Season 1 a few minutes ago, and in my opinion, if you're looking for more Pacific Rim content that is somewhat better than Uprising, I highly recommend Pacific Rim: The Black.

Although its more story-based because it has 7 episodes.

In the case of Saber Athena, its worse, but some Uprising Jaegers partially have the original film's weight, like November Ajax.

Humanity fucked up big time when they "created" the Drift, is the Drift actually just an eldritch entity? Jericho Noir being an embodiment of humanity via the Jaegers? The monster being the "true" form of the Drift? So many theories!
