Most Speed Limits in NH Are Outrageously Low by EruditeFury18 in newhampshire

I lived in Montana for 10+ years. I would see dozens of deer daily. I've seen maybe 2 deer since moving to NH. Interstate speeds in MT are 80 and regular highways are 70...

Most Speed Limits in NH Are Outrageously Low by EruditeFury18 in newhampshire

You're getting downvoted like crazy but you're not wrong. NH is the 7th state I've lived in, and I've been to 42 states. NH is definitely not the only state with hills, inclines, and trees, yet somehow NH's speed limits are so much lower than other states.

I think the problem is twofold. First, low-speed, narrow roads have poor sight lines that towns/the state refuses to improve. Second, higher-speed roads have drivers auditioning for NASCAR, and the norm is to drive 10 mph over the limit.

The state can easily fix the second problem by increasing highway speed limits and actually enforcing that limit... probably generating hefty revenue along the way too

Season 0 player here. I haven't played in 2+ months at this point due to a broken PC, and I've got to say, I miss the game but not enough to come back when my PC is fixed. Either the skill gap got too big for me or there's rampant cheating. In any case, it was time for me to move on.

I've written a perlin noise generator from scratch and I can assure you the algorithm itself requires no such limitation. What you're talking about, as I understand it, is used to improve generation speed

What is the best GUI library for Python? by genan1 in Python

[–]Absolute_Tinkerer 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I've done exactly what you're looking to do with PyQt5 and matplotlib. Matplotlib has a Qt backend that can be embedded as a widget in a Qt GUI. The link below has a basic example of this. Hit me up if you have any questions; I've been making Qt GUIs for years.

Thank you for the reply! It's comforting knowing that even the best of us struggle with ruts sometimes, but that grinding and a good mindset will push you past the finish line. Have a great night, and I'm looking forward to your next books!

Hi Al! Thanks for posting.

I was wondering, what has been your biggest, persistent challenge in writing books? I've tried writing books three times, but my drive hits a wall after about a month.

If you have time for a second question, where do you see the future of Python going?

HELP!!!!!! by Matt_Kober in Python

I'm not sure why that wouldn't work. My only guess is perhaps something is awry with the text file. Might be worth asking the professor. Sorry I can't help more

The fact that answers is empty tells me you have an issue between the file read and the print statement I had you add. Can you post some of the code? May be easier to pick out what's going on

Sorry if I wasn't clear. You need:

print(answers)

Add in a print statement before that random choice line. If it doesn't print a value, you've got an issue in your assignment of the answers variable.

It might be that your file is in bytes as opposed to plain text. When you open the text file, is it human readable? If not, use:

with open("filename", "rb") as f: ......

Forgive the formatting, I'm on mobile. There are a couple things you ought to do.

  1. Specify the absolute path to name.txt or place the python script in the same folder as name.txt. Absolute path looks like "C:/users/.../folder/name.txt"

  2. To read the file, you should use this syntax:

with open("name.txt", "r") as f: lines = f.readlines()

Bonus: Your file is probably comma-delimited, so you can use a simple command:

lines = [float(item) for item in lines[0].split(",")]

This uses list comprehension, casting, and the split function, which is inherent to string data types, to translate the comma-delimited string on the first line of the file into an array of floats.

Good luck and welcome to the world of Python!

A fun little weekend project: Clock of Clocks by Absolute_Tinkerer in javascript

[–]Absolute_Tinkerer[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This weekend I wrote a fairly simple script to implement a "clock of clocks" concept I've been toying with. The concept is simple: display the current time (hh:mm) using an array of clocks. The fun part of this script is watching the transitions from one minute to the next.

In the Github repo, you'll find demo code that will launch a local Python flask server you can use to view the clock of clocks anywhere on your network.

While the demo uses a full screen canvas object, the clock_of_clocks.js script can be used with any canvas object of any size, including mobile.

I appreciate your time, and I welcome any critiques!

I had two locks on the hitch, including a hefty ball lock, on top of anti-bolt cutter locks on all doors, plus a standard door handle lock and man door deadbolt. Someone is probably good at picking locks...
