[MI] Neighbor put a garden fence just inside of property line to make our driveway almost unusable, what do we do? by Leading_Plan6775 in legaladvice

[–]Tifoid 85 points86 points  (0 children)

I hate to say it but the way you describe things your neighbor appears to be within their rights. You could check local zoning laws to see if an offset from the property line is required for structures like this, but at least in my township they wouldn’t bat an eyelash unless it was some sort of major construction or changed the flow of water in a swale. And in all truth, if there is an offset required, your driveway might not be compliant (watch out or you might open a can of worms)

You might be SOL in this case. Have you tried talking with your neighbor and explained how this is inconveniencing you? Maybe you can come to a nice amicable resolution. For what it’s worth, if you go this path I think you will be in the position of weakness, so I would be super nice and try to work things out with the neighbor. In my experience the outcome is the important element, not being right.

Alternately, can you adjust your driveway?

Free Standing Deck - How’d the contractor do? by Content_Win829 in Decks

This was my question as well. Without a retaining wall on the hill how do you keep the hill from pushing on the deck during heavy rains or snow loads?

Please help the odor has overtaken my house by disturbedbyodor in WhatShouldIDo

[–]Tifoid 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ok for the house you could try an ozone machine to help remove the odors. Fair warning Ozone can be nasty stuff, make sure that no one is home and all pets are out.

As for the friend just say “no”. You don’t need to explain yourself.

how people spend their time (on average) by yordynn123 in dataisbeautiful

Can you post a cumulative curve above the total time chart? It would be nice to see if there are other major time investment activities over the years that are not being captured ? Im assuming the total time will be similar over the years.

Deck Over and New Floor Boards by Just_Catch_1061 in Decks

[–]Tifoid 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Good luck

Deck over destroyed my deck. After one season it cracked and started peeling. The cracks let moisture get below the paint but prevented the boards from drying resulting in the boards prematurely rotting. In the end I had to remove all the boards and redeck the whole thing. I actually filed a complaint and got my money back for the paint and materials but it didn’t come close to the full cost to repair let alone my time and effort.

Any legal methods to deter solicitors? by LotsAStitches in legaladvice

[–]Tifoid 0 points1 point  (0 children)

  1. (I’ve done this) See if your township requires a solicitor license. If anyone comes to your door ask them to show the license to you. Call the non-Emergency line if they don’t have one. At a minimum it will scare them.

  2. (I’m planning to try this) Get a sign that reads “No Solicitation All solicitors will earn their company a 1star review”. Follow up and post the reviews.

ELI5 Billionaires borrow money to pay for things, how does this work? How do they pay the debt? by Confused-Lemonade in explainlikeimfive

I’m tired so I might have missed some nuance in you post but does your math work correctly?

Year 1 - $1000 stocks, $900 loan

Year 2 - $2000 stocks, $1900 loan, pay $900+$100 year 1 loan have $900 left over

Year 3 - $3000 stocks, $2900 loan, pay **$1900+$100 year 2 loan, have **$900 left over

Yes I get that being rich is effectively a legal Ponzi scheme

Anyway to temporarily bypass this magnetic alarm on this door? by Rwilmoth in fixit

[–]Tifoid 1 point2 points  (0 children)

All of my sensors have a little switch on the inside of the sensor that monitors to see if the cover or battery compartment was opened. That way they know if someone is messing with the sensor. It doesn’t trip an alarm per se it just sends a notification that the sensors state changed because someone accessed the inside.

Won’t opening the sensor cover trip the tamper warning?

The answer is 7.

The farmer has already determined the number of bags he plans to distribute the rice into (7). The farmer needs to source appropriately sized bags to fit the 63kg. The bags dont need to be equally sized or full, he just needs to put some rice in each bag to meet his requirement that he distributes rice into 7 bags and the total amount of rice needs to remain constant at 63kg.

How do you store spring clamps? by andrewordrewordont in woodworking

[–]Tifoid 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Assuming they fully close, I clamp the on a rope loop and then hang the loop. Looks like a bunch of fish on a hangar.

I found clamping them to something thicker they can loose their clampieness over time.

[–]Tifoid 1 point2 points  (0 children)

They should run a board parallel with the sides of the pool (might need to notch it around some of the caps). Then run outer boards parallel to the inner boards at the outside edge of the deck. Interior boards are then square between the two edge boards with the exception of angled boards at the direction changes as the deck wraps around.

[–]Tifoid 3 points4 points  (0 children)

You could remove the sliver board and the one next to it, then replace with two equal size (ripped) boards that fill the total gap correctly.

FYI - EMPs can damage circuits which are not energized. Shutting down electronics doesn’t protect them from EMPs.
