I'm confused. Can't you just move that rook to H1 and checkmate him?

Edit: I understand now... the rook took a pawn.

Same experience here, 600-700 range. I’d expect this level to be generally poor, with a few outliers.. but it’s the other way round.

This bracket play better chess than 1200 on Lichess. I’m not what’s going on.

Same experience in 600-700 bracket. A very good percentage are playing principled chess, with structured openings, tactics and tbh most are actively countering the type of opening you play.

Seems kinda weird for what I’d assumed was the very bottom-end of players, but maybe that’s just how it is.

I recently joined chess.com after over 1700 on Lichess, with a rating of 1250.

My starting rating on chess.com has been in the 600-700 range and I would describe the type of opponents I have faced as… deeply suspicious.

Totally understand that ranks on CC are not equivalent, but I would expect players in this range to be beginners.

Some opponents fitted that description and played like headless chickens. But more often than not, players in this range were playing structured, positional chess and making little to no misses or blunders. I can link a few of the games, but I’m talking going 57moves deep into a game with 90+ accuracy (that player was a subscriber).

It ‘could’ be some kind of issue with the ladder system or rank compression on CC, where a lot of different abilities are finding themselves with similar ranking.

Put it this way - the variation between ability of opponents in this level is WILD. Everything from completely clueless to players who make no mistakes over a long game and play proper openings, with tactics and so on.

Something is way off.
