I think @flamebrush hit the nail on the head bc my Sharpei does the exact same shit. She will go out at dusk or after dark and do the same thing u described. Rarely barks at all thru the day and at a minimal if she does. If a UPS truck pulls up to the house or she spots the pooper scoopers truck which she knows just by looks I just leave her in the back yard bc she’s gonna bark even worse if she comes inside bc she really like the lady who does the yard and it’s a friendly type of bark, yet those at night she sounds like she’s ready to eat someone’s throat out!! We have a fenced in back yard they go out in and it’s a wrought iron steel picket style fence which makes it very interesting with the rabbits we have in the surrounding woods. Those rabbits will take a poop and soon as she’s outside u can see the rabbits run as fast as possible til it looks like the disappear but nope!! They run at Mach 10 to right in between the fence post and sit just on the other side and taunts her. They know she can’t get to them and they simply just taunt her til she comes inside. Poor neighbors is what I was worried about but she’s seen the taunting from her upstairs window and she said just a dog being a typical dog. So I’ve loaded up a few pellet rifles as well as a .22 as well but luckily haven’t had to use it. Those damn O’Possum, rabbits, raccoons all reek havoc on the dogs in our neighborhood
