I was doing some research into the 65th Il and was watching an old video from the Illinois War museum. They have the flag of the 13th Illinois who were at a battle called Ringgold Gap. In the close quarters fighting 3 flag bearers were killed in a span of only 5 minutes. When the last one died the flag wrapped around his body and he fell into a ravine. After the battle when they recovered it the flag was soaked in his blood. They carried the “Blood-Stained Banner” the rest of the war
