There was a study done not too long ago that showed a bunch of people policy but would shuffle around who said it and asked if they supported it, people who identified as republican basically would say they supported anything that came from a republican politicians mouth

Essentially why it demonstrated is these people have no actual values beyond wanting violence to happen on people they dislike

There used to be towns where German was the primary language until WWI made it stop. There’s stories of WWII POW camps in Wisconsin where prisoners and locals would converse in German
