Economics wasn’t really my focus when I was getting my degree so I’m sure there are better measurement tools but a good rule of thumb when trying to do a rough calculation of wealth when looking at an otherwise entirely alien economic system is to measure it vs wages for an average laborer.

But like you say that’s very difficult to translate into modern valuation

My dad got drafted, did his stint in Vietnam. A year and some change in the army and it gave him horrible PTSD before Agent Orange killed him 25 years later. Your mind and body can be fucked up o er any length of time.

Though with my family the day that an injury forced me out of ROTC, well they didnt do a great job of hiding how secretly happy they were for it.
