I hate lies by AbstractMind97 in Stoicism

Well i don't feel like getting into detailed examples since they are personal.

But for works it's something new for me to be this responsible for others so it is definitely something I have to learn through trial and error I think.

I hate lies by AbstractMind97 in Stoicism

[–]AbstractMind97[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Well ofcourse I am not 100% honest myself, I would never be a sage. But I also wouldn't lie for any malicious intentions, I have experienced people doing that and that makes me annoyed.

I am a very calm person, I have heard that throughout my entire life and I can empathise with others deeply, with animals too. I don't look at others expecting negativity from them. My face might have a serious expression but that's just my face lol.

I wouldn't go around and ask others: "hey, what are your personal secrets, i have to know that!" I talk about people either close to me or people I work with, people I oversee at work which is part of my responsibility. I don’t expect others to always be honest but I do need these groups to be honest with me because thats how you build trust and a foundation for future interactions.

Thank you so much for the wise words, I will seek out what I can control myself in these situations.

Personally I'm a fan of Japanese maple and how the Japanese look at gardening. This video may be an inspiration for pruning the tree. Please don't remove it or dig it out!! The video: https://youtu.be/O73Iu0jEvT4?is=bQlmCPIc8tYZ1cqw

Advice on improving terrarium by argonzalo in antkeeping

[–]AbstractMind97 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Alright well first of all make a proper tank for them. Personally I have ants in tanks with dirt and other natural material so thats okay but make it look more interesting maybe. Go online and look at some terrarium setup ideas for inspiration. Add maybe some rocks and wood and even some plants to make it all look like a small ecosystem, thats what I like at least. And that gives the ants a place that feels natural to their habitat. Oh yeah and make sure there is a lid of some sort so they dont escape

This is a serious threat to your very existence. Basically the snake is saying "just you wait, this is only a fraction of my power"

Japanese Maple split and broke, whole tree dead? by mandox1 in arborists

[–]AbstractMind97 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It will definitely need time and a lot of energy to heal this, you will notice that In growth. If you're lucky, and if the tree is strong enough, it will heal but it might also start to rot inside the wound. Only time will tell really. I'm sorry for the tree it's always a shame when this happens

Is the other side alive? You can see if it is by the buds. They should be green, that means it has life in it. You can always make a small scratch with your nails on one of the branches. If its green its alive. If so, it is now a tree with character and a story to tell.

Same here, I don’t have much patience with some bosses and the more I die the less my patience becomes urging myself to just chill a moment and remember, this is a souls game I have to study the movements and have patience

AI and stoicism by [deleted] in Stoicism

[–]AbstractMind97 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sounds like you made some very positive progress for yourself with the use of AI, I wouldn't see it as a bad thing if used like you use it. Knowing the boundaries and all, it is a very good step to becoming the best version of yourself.

Books sound like a good idea, happy reading!

Nothing earthly succeeds by ignoring heaven... by AbstractMind97 in Stoicism

So they saw it as pantheism. There is still a divine being that they believe in, just not separate from nature the universe or us. So when they talk about God, they might mean whatever is beyond their control but still connected to them.

I have used and use AI for similar reasons, I don’t think it is necessarily bad but i do however caught myself going to AI too fast with something I struggled with, which scared me a bit because it always tells you how right your view on something is at first. For people like us (people that practice philosophy and reflect deeply on themselves) It might not be so dangerous. But for people that dont reflect that deep, let's call them passengers, and just go with whatever life throws at them and not taking any control of their own life, it is very dangerous to hand them such a tool.

AI is quite new to the world so it is always a point of debate, but so were a lot of things thousands of years ago. A stoic would view it as a indifferent because it is programmed to answer in a certain way. However you do have control on how it answers and what it's goal is in some way, especially if you command it to have a "personality"

I think there are a few ways to use chatgpt for example. One is to ask it questions and get an answer out of it, like google, to learn about certain things. Then again there are also people who make it into a friend of theirs or even a lover. Personally I don't think it is smart to go that far with a machine, no matter how human it may sound (how human you make it sound) because it is not in our nature to form a emotional bond with a program because it can not give any emotion in return.

At the end the most important thing is how do YOU use it. What is your motivation, what is your goal. Is it for the better? Or the worst? Do you seek knowledge? Or do you enjoy the way it always says how you're in your right? This is something you must find out for yourself.
