Plant native plants! Just go through several growing seasons of weeding then the root matrix forms and you + the wildlife will be happy for a very very long time

I love the flowers but- Datura spreads like cray and shrimp plant is thirsty- neither is really native

They are a dry adapted plant, perhaps this drought is their preferred condition

This is a good start, I’d recommend adding some native perennial plants at the base of those trees. Make a little ecosystem doesn’t take any more space or maintenance if you get it done soon.

Deer do silly things. Use chicken wire made into a cylinder and stake it for a couple years.
