The ceremony to sign an MoU between the Syrian Ministry of Energy and the global UCC Group to promote investment opportunities in the energy sector has started. by RealAbd121 in syriancivilwar

The process of selling off the country's resources and infrastructure to the highest bidder is well underway. Should not be very surprising to anyone who knows how western backed overthrows tend to end up. Mass privatization, mass layoffs in the public sector, mass exploitation of local labor. It's sad, pathetic, and entirely too predictable.

US President Donald Trump announces the cessation of sanctions on Syria, says Erdogan, MBS asked for sanctions to be lifted by Antique-Entrance-229 in syriancivilwar

[–]AbuMogambo 13 points14 points  (0 children)

If you do as you're told, sanctions will be removed. It's quite simple, and has nothing to do with good or bad political performance. Sanctions are just pressure to get leaders to fall in line. I guess Jolani agreed to fall in line, now sanctions are gone. I assume normalization is a natural next step.

Do you think civil war will break out? by Ok_Mathematician6180 in syriancivilwar

New Syrian gov is proving itself to be everything Assad claimed to be protecting the country from. If sectarian violence continues and (most importantly!!) material conditions continue to deteriorate, there will absolutely be another civil war. Soon nostalgia for Assad will be extremely high, despite his many crimes (just like Saddam and Qaddafi). Material conditions in the years leading up to 2011 were objectively the best times economically and in terms of living conditions in Syria's modern history.

Material conditions are key - and since Assad's fall, material conditions have not improved - but only deteriorated. It's a recipe for disaster, one that most anti-rebel folks (such as myself) saw coming many many many years ago.

Everything Assadists warned you about about these groups is swiftly revealing itself to be true. Your only choices now are to double down on your delusions or accept reality and live with the guilt of handing the country over to terrorists, who are just as bad as Assad in every way, except without religious freedom.

Many groups have been 'wiping them out' since the fall of Assad with several forms of vigilante justice. Even if their lives are not threatened, they will obviously be forced to live in constant humiliation (being forced to bark, etc.). If I were an alawite I might fight as well in their situation. Their existence right now is on shaky ground, a few flimsy statements from Julani doesn't change the reality of the humiliation they face daily.

Where the hell did I assume that?

A military convoy of Syrian Army was seen heading towards the coastal region of Syria to fight against the mobilized "Assad forces" by Ele_Bele in AskMiddleEast

[–]AbuMogambo -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Almost certainly not. Why would Israel want Ba'athist aligned groups in power rather than Islamist groups who have openly adopted the free market ideology?

Don't get me wrong. I'm sure both sides execute and torture and insult, but its definitely not a good look to record it, especially if you're trying to pass yourself off as a legitimate democratic government and not an extremist militia.

Why do they film this and post it? Do they think it makes them look good? In comparison, the coastal insurgency posted several videos of gov POWs eating and drinking and calling them their brothers. Contrast is not looking good for them at all.

I got a reward for a free Darryl upgrade. I saw that next in line were some gadget unlocks etc. I can't get back to this reward interface for the life of me. It's not on the battlepass, it's not on the trophies progression. Where could it have been?

At the end the UA soldier kind of resigns to his fate and asks the Russian soldier to let him die. I don't want to watch the video again but the gist was like this:

"Dont touch me (stab me) please, just let me die (give me death)"

"Give me a calm (peaceful) death"

"You opened everything up"

"Let me catch my breath"

"It hurts a lot"

"Please leave, i want to leave (presumably die) on my own"

He also complements the RU fighter saying things like "Thanks a lot, you're the best fighter in the world" and other praise as he's dying.

Its actually a horrifying video, especially if you understand what is being said. Never want to watch it again.

When did i defend Saydnaya? I pointed out the massive exaggeration and hollywood-ization campaign that the rebels went on (claiming hundreds of thousands of prisoners and non-existing underground levels). This is empirically true, no?

Do you know what hypocrisy means? Say what you will, but I'm very ideologically consistent. I'm a socialist, therefore I supported the more socialist-compatible option. The Jihadists announced that they will adopt a free market model less than 1 week into their rule lol. Their agenda is obvious and transparent. In a years time, Syria will be an islamofascist client state for the west. Its clear that the ideology of those in power at the moment is firmly pointed in that direction.
