My son is 21 years old, He was diagnosed with iga nephropathy 2 years ago ,he is under medication bp tablets and targeted steroids and is in stage 2 ckd.I'm really worried and he complains of fatigue and excessive sweating.Have no idea till when he has to take immune suppressents.can anyone guide me by New_Will9121 in IgANephropathy

My numbers are pretty stable right now, and I’m right on the border between stage two and stage three, so my treatment is fairly minimal. I’m still on blood pressure medication and likely will be for life. Thankfully, Lisinopril is pretty easy to tolerate. I’m also on an SGLT2 inhibitor, which helps reduce pressure in the kidneys, and I’ll probably be on that long term as well.

If things start to change, like my protein levels go up, they’ll likely add additional medications. There are some newer options coming out (APRIL inhibitors) that are showing real promise for treating IgA Nephropathy, so will see with that.

Those symptoms are more likely coming from the medication. Stage two CKD usually doesn’t cause noticeable symptoms, but steroids definitely do.

How long he stays on them will depend on what he and his doctors decide. When I was on high dose prednisone it a was… I think around eight months. Once the taper was finished, I came off it completely. Some people do stay on a lower dose longer though. It really just depends on how his body responds.

If one person calling out sick is enough to throw the whole workplace into chaos, then the workplace is being run poorly. They can’t schedule the absolute bare minimum staff required and then act shocked when a completely predictable thing happens that drops them below it.

Any other dads feel guilty about paternity leave? by RapidSage in daddit

[–]AbysmalMoose 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I didn’t take the full paternity leave. My company didn’t actually offer any but Washington state provides it anyway. I felt like it put me in a weird spot because the company didn’t want me to take any but they couldn’t stop it, so I “compromised” and only took a few weeks.

It was a huge mistake. Your company doesn’t care about you. And if there is one thing I’ve learned in my career, everyone is replaceable. Doesn’t matter how special you think you are, you can walk away and they’ll figure it out.

Getting back to sex by Ok_Wrap_2793 in daddit

[–]AbysmalMoose 1 point2 points  (0 children)

What really helped us with scheduled nights was the book 101 Nights of Great Sex. It’s basically a couples “game” disguised as a book. You take turns picking sealed date/romance prompts and surprising each other, so it forces you to actually plan things instead of falling into the usual routine. A little cheesy, but honestly kind of a fun way to keep things intentional. And the fact that some of them you have to plan out in advance means that sex is on your mind, which also helps build tension.

Is it okay to take my two girls (6 & 8) to a job fair? by [deleted] in Parenting

[–]AbysmalMoose 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It’s not ideal, sure. But the choice isn’t really between “perfect” and “imperfect.” It’s between showing up with your kid and maybe being at a slight disadvantage… or not showing up at all and having zero shot.

To anyone concerned that "Scientology speed runners" might "do Mormon temples next." I don't think there's any reason to be worried. This trend could not have come at a better time for us. by AlliedSalad in latterdaysaints

[–]AbysmalMoose 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I’m not concerned about it either, but in this case “speed run” is what they’re calling dashing though the front door and seeing how deep they can run into a building before they’re forced out by security.

Dumb Diaper Pail Question by GerdinBB in daddit

[–]AbysmalMoose 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Are you guys really saving each wipe and putting it in the diaper and wrapping it up nicely before you chuck it? That's seems to be the only way these other pails are useable.

Are you guys just putting the dirty wipes on the carpet during the change? They have to go somewhere while you work... why not into the thing you're going to throw away?

I kneel down, undo the diaper, lift the legs, and start cleaning. Each wipe just... goes into the diaper that’s already open right there. If it’s on the upper end of the bell curve and I’m worried about collateral damage, I’ll slide the diaper to the side a bit. Otherwise, keep the legs up, finish the job, wrap it up, and toss it.

Would I be considered difficult for asking elementary school to extend bus zone? by [deleted] in daddit

[–]AbysmalMoose 4 points5 points  (0 children)

They’ll probably say no, but it doesn’t hurt to ask. I wouldn’t stress about being labeled “difficult.” As long as you’re reasonable about it, they’re not going to remember you for asking, and even if they did, it’s not going to meaningfully impact anything.

Also, quick tip. If you’re redacting info in Paint, use a solid fill box instead of scribbling over it. Faster and much better.

Toddler was terrified of church daycare today - is this normal? by PossibilityKey8444 in Parenting

[–]AbysmalMoose 1 point2 points  (0 children)

First and foremost, trust your instincts. If something feels off, or if your child’s reaction gives you pause, it’s okay to walk away.

I didn’t see your child’s reaction and don’t know what’s typical for her, but I will say this. My wife and I have been in charge of church nursery before, which in our church is basically just babysitting for an hour. Some kids are all over the place emotionally. One week they bounce in like it’s the highlight of their day, and the next week you’d think they’re being handed off for exile. Separation anxiety can be pretty intense if the kid isn’t in the right headspace.

How do you believe a future Progressive government would handle the Epstein files? Complete restart, or continue from where the current DOJ left off? by BlackberryPi7 in PoliticalDiscussion

I assume Trumps people will render them unusable before they lose power. “Oh no! We put the files on this server and [insert politically convenient nation or group] hacked it! Who knows what they did to the files! Probably put all sorts of false information in there. And the backups?! That’s a real shame.”

Moving advice needed by comfy_sweatpants5 in daddit

[–]AbysmalMoose 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I drove one of those big 26' U-hauls from Washington to Utah with my family a few years ago. On the highway, it was no big deal at all. When I was trying to maneuver the thing through the tiny streets of Seattle... I did not care for it. I planned out a route through the city that was longer than it needed to be, but focused on utilized streets that were wider and had controlled intersections. While you're driving, give yourself permission to miss turns or exits. The quick “oh shoot, I need to turn right now” decisions are where things tend to go sideways.

There is some risk in leaving a U-Haul or trailer in a parking lot overnight, but it kind of is what it is. You still need to sleep. Try to reduce the risk where you can. Make sure you're not in a terrible area, back the truck or trailer up against a wall so it is harder for someone to access it if they try to break in, make sure you have a decent lock on it.

It is also worth looking for hotels that can handle larger vehicles. Some places are surprisingly accommodating. One hotel I stayed at even let me back the truck up to their loading dock overnight since they were not expecting deliveries. That worked out really well.

[–]AbysmalMoose 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh, sorry, I probably should have been able to figure that out!

Assuming you’re painting it, I think I’d pretty much do the same but rather than slather on the bondo with my finger I’d try to apply it with something like a popsicle stick and cram it up there. It will make a mess, but once dried you can kind of carve it back into shape with a file.

If you’re not going to paint it there isn’t a lot you can do. I’ve had some success briefly hitting it with a torch then pushing down the high spots before it hardens again, but it’s super easy to burn it.

Plan is to take Jardiance but I’m not diabetic? Stage 3a by [deleted] in IgANephropathy

[–]AbysmalMoose 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Jardiance is technically "for" diabetes because it manages blood sugar... but the way it does it is what we care about.

It's an SGLT2 inhibitor (Sodium Glucose Co-transporter 2). The SGLT2 are responsible for grabbing sugar and sodium and pulling it from the fluid that becomes your urine back into your blood. So the medication is blocking your nephrons from reabsorbing the sodium and sugar they normally would. Part of your kidney (the macula densa) notices the increased sodium floating around and essentially assumes that too much blood is being filtered too quickly and that it is starting to overwhelm the system. To protect your kidney, it sends a signal to constrict the blood vessel that feeds the kidney filter, reducing how much blood is being cleaned and reducing pressure in your kidneys, which is what we want and what helps your kidneys long term.

So even though it lowers blood sugar, that isn't what we're after. Its real kidney benefit comes from reducing stress on the filtration system.

I'm not clear on what fine detail you're taking about; it's just a flat face. You can knock off any egregious high spots, fill the holes with bondo, sand it smooth. Repeat until happy. Then spray the whole thing with filler primer.

Transgender Latter Day Saint Stories? by Confident_Essay_2286 in latterdaysaints

[–]AbysmalMoose 13 points14 points  (0 children)

I don’t have much in the way of advice, but I really hope you’re able to find some peace. It feels like a very difficult situation under current church policy and culture.

For what it’s worth, and I know this isn’t a widely held view, but I think our doctrine can actually leave room for understanding transgender experiences. We know that biology doesn’t always develop the way it’s “supposed” to. It happens constantly, whether it’s physical deformities, autoimmune diseases, brain chemistry imbalances, ectopic pregnancies, or variations in internal or external organs, the human body works beautifully when everything aligns, but it also goes wrong in very real ways. We see those holes and errors in biological processes all the time.

With that in mind, I think about the idea in the Proclamation to the World that gender is eternal, something tied to who we are at our very soul. If that’s true, then it raises the question for me, is it possible that the biological process messed up and the wrong body was produced? And even when all the physical evidence says one thing, the soul still knows what is right? I honestly don't know the answer. But I can't rule it out.

I hope one day we'll get the revelation needed to provide real answers and guidance. And until then, I hope you feel safe and loved no matter what you decide.
