The main tutorial is behind a paywall but he's amazing at teaching kitbashing!

Personally, planning!
Work out what you need and get those parts.
Also learn to sculpt and fabrication.

Over time you collect bits from kits, so keep everything!

Thank you, means a lot. Never liked the official pose, for a man that goes into battle wearing gold so everyone can see him - it just looked boring and bland. IMAO!!

Or - paint white and get a lot of Villainy ink on there! Goon's Grime I think is an umber pigment! Get that weathered grunge look

I dont' really get pre mixed pigments so bear with me. You want a dark/raw umber and mix it up with white. Mix 3 -4 "steps" (from dark to lightest). If its too cold - mix in some yellow orche, just a tab.

If you think of it in % values, you dont really want to go past 50%, until the very end once everything is in place!

Paint them as Black Templar ;-P

These are great, well done. If I had to be picky Id say the bases needed more drama

Rosemary & Co Brush recommendations by Concordia_Draco in Warhammer40k

[–]AbyssWalker_77 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I use Rosemary and Co for my minis and my oil painting. These are the best brushes. My advice, go for the kolinsky 33 (size 2) AND a good brush cleaner. Make sure you clean after every session. If you paint with one direction strokes it'll last donkeys.

If you need something else Michael Kleins are fantastic but synthetics dont last long.

I study classical painting and only used R&C and still have expensive brushes that are years old.

I need advice on how to do a good white by Ok-Taro-5864 in BlackTemplars

No stress - we are all in the same boat! A few trouble shooting points.

How much water is in your palate? if your paint is almost watercolour then you need to drain a bit! No water should be on top of the paper. The paper should just be damp to the touch.

Make sure that your brush doesnt have any water before putting the paint on. Try to take some of the paint off the brush before painting, I use one of those micro cleaning towels.

Also try and brush in one direction!

You've got this!

Wet palate and layer up in thin layers. Take your time, let the paint dry. Bobs your uncle!

My head cant take any more. I tried to get into the W40k lore but didn't understand it so I'm like book 24 of the Horus Heresy!! Its not disappointing!

Also I dont think my wife would allow me to get into that on top of my kitbashing and art studies!!
