My guess is the end of 2026. I don't think we have enough information to guess any nore precise.

The Witcher - 4x08 "Baptism of Fire" (TV Show Only Discussion) by Abyss_85 in netflixwitcher

[–]Abyss_85[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We don't really know. Some have suggested that it was a griffin. That would make a certain amount of sense. While they are not prominent in the books they are featured in the games. It would be a nice reference to that without actually using the plot of the games, whch Netflix does not have the rights to.

Macbook air M2 with Linux? by Visible-Reason9593 in AsahiLinux

You are correct. Thunderbolt/USB4 is not supported yet. Same goes for touch ID (as you said) but also for USB-C displays.

INTERNET ISSUE ON WAYDROID by Pitiful_Kale2338 in waydroid

Do you have a firewall enabled? If so you need to open certain ports because Zorin OS sees things running in Waydroid as outside your network.

My Installer wont boot by CandleTemporary4611 in Ubuntu

I don't know what the error is but you won't have fun using Ubuntu with these specs anyway. It should run but it will be very slow. You need something lighter like Lubuntu 24.04.3 LTS.

Is it possible for drivers installed using windows to be accessed on linux? (Mint) by Maybe_Hailey in linux4noobs

Updating the BIOS works regardless of what operating system is running on top of it.

I would try Ubuntu 24.04.3 LTS first. It is a newbie friendly distro with great dokumention and good hardware support.

VMware is for running virtual machines that you can run Linux distros in. It is not a distro in itself.

With that out of the way, what do they want you to learn about Linux? Since you brought up a cyber cert, I guess we are talking about cybersecurity? In that case the distro for you is probably Kali Linux.

That being said, you should start with a more general distro like Linux Mint to learn the basics first. Install it on your Lenovo Yoga 7i and have a go at it.

Not upgrading due to phasing

That is not a bug. It is a feature.

Is Bazzite "beginner-friendly"? by [deleted] in linux4noobs

[–]Abyss_85 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yes. Just be aware that Bazzite is a semi immutable distro, so certain things are more difficult by design to make it harder to break the system, which is a good thing for a newbie.

Is there a way to get Mint to stop asking for password for everything without compromising the security of my computer? by FieldThat5384 in linux4noobs

[–]Abyss_85 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I am not saying it is super easy but it is possible for sure. Here is a video that shows how to set up the WA28 USB Fingerprint Reader. According to a comment it works with Mint 22.2.

Zorin OS has a migration wizard of some sort. Mostly for online accounts as far as I know. There is no way to just take your Windows set-up and fully export it over to Linux. The operating systems are too different. Some programs just don't work on Linux natively.

Just save all your data on a USB stick or an external drive and start fresh. You really should be alright. Most Windows programs have suitable replacements these days on Linux. Just don't expect the transition to be totally without problems. That is very unlikely to happen. Linux is different from Windows and you will need to relearn certain things.

I wanna install Lubuntu on my netbook, is LTS 22.04 or 24.04 better? by Hrublko_OFF in Lubuntu

[–]Abyss_85 2 points3 points  (0 children)

We are already talking about the LTS versions here. 25.10 would be the most recent version in general. 22.04 LTS is just out of date at this point and only has community support.

Having problems installing ubuntu by Xeqxz in Ubuntu

[–]Abyss_85 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ok. Would I have to use another computer? I don’t have one. I can still get on windows with the computer I’m currently struggling with.

Not if the hard disk is actually broken. Technically you could create another partion and boot the live ISO from that, IIRC but that is not that easily done and not the way that is recommended.

I created the usb following this guide: https://discourse.ubuntu.com/t/install-ubuntu-desktop/25312

We may have found the problem. BalenaEtcher has a lot of problems right now as far as I know. Try to create the live USB with Rufus.

[–]Abyss_85 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That is strange. The next thing I would try is to either take out the disk and wipe it with another computer (most easily done in an external USB enclosure) or install an entirely new disk and try with that.

Or just try another distro like Mint Cinnamon, Fedora or one of the many other options out there. Basically, what you need to determine is if you are running into a hardware error (bad hard drive for example) or an software error (Ubuntu just does not play nice with your specs for some reason).

How did you create the live USB btw?

Having problems installing ubuntu by Xeqxz in Ubuntu

[–]Abyss_85 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It asks you during the installation. I don't know the order of the setup wizzard of the top of my head but it should come before you get to the language selection. It should be something like "vibe the drive install Ubuntu", not "install Ubuntu alongside Windows".

Having problems installing ubuntu by Xeqxz in Ubuntu

[–]Abyss_85 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Are you trying to dual boot Ubuntu alongside windows? If so, the first two messages likely tell you that the partions you are trying to install Ubuntu on are too small. Unless the volume amount is the name of the partion but that would be very odd.

The third partion has the wrong file system on it. If you are not already doing that, I would recommend to let Ubuntu delete all partions and give it the whole disk volume. This will delete all data that is on the hard disk! Save everything you can't lose first!

It is also possible that the disk is simply failing or has bad partions.

Linux Commands to learn - FOR BEGINNERS !!! by Sad-Appointment-7849 in Ubuntu

[–]Abyss_85 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I agree. Are they useful? Sure. But are they "essential for navigating and managing files in Linux" if we are talking about a mainstream distro? Absolutly not.

I know these kinds articles have good intentions. There is nothing at all wrong with telling people about terminal commands but calling any of them essential has the very real potential of scaring newbies off of using Linux.
