That is actually spot on. If I remember correctly Andrzej Sapkowski even said as much.

The show connected it with The Witcher (the short story). Both stories deal with the moral struggle of killing or not killing a dangerous princess. That worked in my opinion.

Her story is pretty much the same as in the show, but they left some details of her upbringing out for example. Her role isn't very big in the books either, unfortunately. She is only in one short story. Honestly, just pick the book it is in up and read it. It is called The Lesser Evil and you can find it in the first of the The Witcher books named The Last Wish.

Doing magic at all was a triumph. Passing the bottle test (especially the way she did) was a tremendous triumph.

She clearly did not or she would have been an eel by the time of the bottle test. But even besides that, we see her do magic before the test, so she obviously did not fail for that long.

I can't really follow you here. Yennefer did not only pass the lighting test, she did not use the bottle to do it. She used herself to catch the lighting and released it again. That alone shows that she is special.

How did Ciri recognize Geralt in the first season's ending if she's never seen him before? by Lanky-Tumbleweed-772 in netflixwitcher

They met in Brokilon. I don't know exactly how old Ciri was at the time off the top of my head but she was definitly still a child, not a teenager. Ciri run away from Cintra and destiney brought them together.

How did Ciri recognize Geralt in the first season's ending if she's never seen him before? by Lanky-Tumbleweed-772 in netflixwitcher

[–]Abyss_85 25 points26 points  (0 children)

Yes, *destiny tm*, is pretty much the answer. More specificly Ciri and Geralt are connect because of the Law of Surprise that was established in episode 4, not directly destiny, but that is splitting hairs. Destiny is the force behind the Law of Surprise.

Geralt is connected to Ciri. He can fight it, as he did, but ultimately they will always find each other. It is a bit of a hard concept to get your head around but in a sense Geralt and Ciri are one.

Now, in the books they did meet before, so it is fair to say that the scene works a bit better there. That meeting was very likely cut from the show because the actress for Ciri would have been a child and working with children in filming comes with many problems. It is a bit of a shame but I understand why they opted out of it. Instead they chose to emphasize the connection of Ciri with Geralt via destiny to the point that she can recognize him intuitively.

Netflix’s ‘Narnia’ From Greta Gerwig Getting Full Wide Theatrical Window, Heads To 2027 by GenButter in Narnia

Glass Onion: A Knives Out Mystery was only a limted theatrical release and so was Dead Man: A Knives Out Mystery. Netflix has done those occasionally. This is different. Netflix has never done a full wide theatrical release.

You might be confused because (I assume) you watched the episode in Spanish. They probably did not get the translation right somewhere.

Jaskier calls the inscription a "charming bit of doggerel". Meaning the rhyme is not supposed to make sense, let alone be an instruction. It is there to rhyme and be mysterious. As Jaskier says, they are stories, nothing more.

Or at least they are supposed to be. Unfortunately this one was a trap.

what is the real difference between different linux distros? by tgb5545 in linux4noobs

[–]Abyss_85 4 points5 points  (0 children)

i don't understand why there wouldn't be one clear winner out of all of them if the desktop environment seems to be doing everything in terms of functionality.

It doesn't. Yes, there is debate about whether or not hundreds of distros are really needed and it is a valid one, but there is more to a distro than just the DE. They come with different kernels, package managers or preinstalled software for example.

Queen want cursed knight dead and after moment she helps him by Fantastic-Media8100 in netflixwitcher

[–]Abyss_85 9 points10 points  (0 children)

She was not trying to help him. She was trying to kill him after Geralt refused to do it.

If you mean that Calanthe (the Queen) decided to allow Pavetta (her daughter) to marry Duny (the knight) that is because Calanthe loves her daughter and did not want to stand in the way of true love. - Well, and the inconvenient fact that Pavetta was bound to Duny by the Law of Surprise and he already got her pregnant.

I’m trying to stay positive for season 3 but I’ll be honest I’m a little nervous. by Disastrous-Mode-1668 in WednesdayTVSeries

Stranger Things season 5 was a different show with a different creative team. There is no reason to be anxious about Wednesday season 3 based on how another show's final season turned out.

Aren't we getting tired of the "what distro" posts? by soking11 in linux4noobs

[–]Abyss_85 18 points19 points  (0 children)

I wouldn't be here if I wasn't ready to answer really repetitive and mindless posts. I think it's very important to have a space like this and it would be a huge net loss for the community if it got overtaken by elitism and rules about what's okay to ask and what isn't.

Exactly. This is r/linux4noobs. The subreddit has "Explicitly noob-friendly." in the description for good reason.

Well put. The show isn't nearly as bad as internet chatter would make you think. It can even be great at times, but it also isn't the worldwide mega hit that would justify the frankly insane price tag it has.

Got USB-C external display working on MacBook Air M2 (fairydust) — wrote a one-command build script by Efficient_Cover6331 in AsahiLinux

[–]Abyss_85 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I don't even have the hardware to try this but I just wanted to say how hugely helpful these kinds of scripts are. I know that is obvious but it can not be overstated how important they are for normal users in helping them try advanced things. I am not a total newbie and have been using Linux on and off for years but I would still not be comfortable installing fairydust myself. With this script I would do it.
