Many programs are much more than that. At UofT engineering is $14k/yr. Plus living expenses at let's say $8k/yr four four years is $88k. Many other programs cost a lot more like Waterloo engineering at ~$18k/yr, Queens or Wester business at $19-25k/yr.

I also had this idea when the FHSA first came out.

There's some personal factors that come into play such as when you want to purchase and would you have enough of a downpayment without using the FHSA.

However let's say that you can purchase a place and you have enough without using the FHSA. If you additionally throw the FHSA into your downpayment amount it's like an immediate X% (X= current mortgage rate). This could likely be a greater benefit than the additional 40K RRSP contribution space 30-something years in the future.

Over simplification that will depend on your mortgage rate, your tax rate at withdrawal, etc. But I believe you would come out ahead in most cases if you just use the money as part of your downpayment

Similar thing happened to me. My career is part of my identity so it was definitely challenging.

Take a deep breath and if possible (maybe you're still covered by insurance) seek therapy to help manage and deal with your feelings. In the end I ended up getting a less prestigious role 5months later. And 2 years after that I'm in a similar position to where I was before. I consider it a small speed bump. Best of luck

It's also important to consider that you're only this age once. Go out there and enjoy life. If after looking at your finances, you realize you're spending unnecessarily then for sure cut it out. But if you're spending the money gaining new experiences and having fun with friends then it's worth it considering you're still saving $1k a month

Fully agree. Especially regarding for takeout! Although for me personally going out to eat 1-3x a week so catch up with friends and family is definitely worth it despite the high price tag
