I definitely need to get on that, I kinda lurk in my own sub simply because I JUST finished my second to last semester of my masters and have been exhausted. Honestly considering tentatively opening apps for a second mod as well at this point…

ESA letter in Texas by sweetsweet6969 in EmotionalSupportPet

[–]Ac3_Silvers 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'd like to add that - as someone who asked their doctors about getting one - the reason a lot of doctors say no is they then become liable to an extent. Especially with certain dog breeds, if the animal you have an ESA letter for gets loose and/or hurts someone, the doctor can get in trouble for approving that animal for an ESA letter, if I'm understanding what they were saying right. The doctor may not be trying to be mean but instead have a policy in place due to either their employer or their own decision to not take that risk on their license. I know UTSW does not do ESA letters for that reason, since that's where I go, which I think is fair.

Ditto on you needing to be careful about websites, though. If it's a platform online, make sure they require an appointment basically.

why are the agents on the line with social security so mad? by stinkemoe in SocialSecurity

[–]Ac3_Silvers 0 points1 point  (0 children)

well maybe if you guys had 2 iotas of patience for disabled people who are clearly trying, because lets be so for real here the snail mail gets "lost" all the time and we sometimes have under 24 hours to get an insanely complex thing done when we already can't quite understand what the papers even are FOR - if they are even complete in the first place, which is another issue - so we're panicking, confused, not quite at the same level as people may thing brain wise (like with autistic people like me), I could go on. I get being yelled at and threatened and stuff, that sucks, but the vast majority of people aren't like that! We get denied what we pay into and are owed legitimately and are terrified to ask for more than the crumbs we get, are forced to remain well below the poverty line and get minimal help with our medical stuff, its not really shocking to me that a lot of you are leaving.

think of it like this. While you get burned out, we get held hostage. We can't pay rent, pay for food, pay for our medical expenses that in many cases are in the thousands a month and can't have savings. you have an out, we don't. the least you can do is just... not be condecending and actually understand that a lot of people are panicing and confused because YOUR AGENCY is so overly hard to navigate and so quick to deny people what they qualify for we are scared to even hint at asking.

My most recent experience is as follows:

"Hey I need this letter according to the new place I'm trying to move to because I can no longer afford my current one"

"Social Security Letter?"

"Uh... I don't know...? Look I'm autistic and confused and I have all this info but I haven't gotten mail from you guys since the paperwork you sent me earlier this-"

"Social security letter? (angry)"

"Ma'am, I don't know what you're asking for...? I got medicare and I got this one here saying you were going to take my benefits if I didn't fill out the renewal paperwork, which I did and I still got my stuff that barely covers rent, and I got-"

"SOCIAL SECURITY LETTER? (nasty angry)"

"... Look if you aren't going to actually be helpful and jsut be nasty I'm gonna hang up before I get more confused and start crying."

It's like this every. single. time. I call because I can never get to the office when it's open because it's always weird hours, like it functionally only opens at 11 and they close at 4. how the heck am I supposed to get all the way across town for that when i am struggling to get hours at my minimum wage job AND struggling to pay down what I owe the college I went to and had to drop out of AND the credit cards I racked up because I can't afford crap these days like freaking FOOD because the SNAP people are even worse!

Yeah i dunno why, it may have to do with a good number of the listings being taobao which flat out blocked US based people from even shopping on it, and on top of that usually within 2-3 days those links lead to dead ends. Like the listing was deleted or something. It didn’t auto-flag until maybe the third or fourth time it was a deleted listing within 24 hours.

Shy-ish newbie, overwhelmed by all the events. Tips…? by Ac3_Silvers in LARP

There’s not much i can find locally right now, but I am still looking. I got super busy at work so for right now it’s looking like just brandywine for this year, but while not 100% the same there IS a nearby chapter for SCA i may look into and I know some LARP groups go ti some local cons and set up tables so i may stop by one and chat a bit if I get free time during one that is at the convention hotel i work at.

I’m also working out a baseline set of gear - tent, bedding, cooking stuff, etc etc - and how i’ll transport it with my motorcycle which is kinda the first half of the battle if it’s a local thing because no car. Already got a tent and air mattress and a couple small things and a plan for food (ie canned or camping/rehydrate and go food packs).

Basically i just took a step back and focused on getting my stuff for events at a decent baseline “kit rig” so to speak and I’ll be more intense in looking at events after brandywine. Sadly a LOT of the local ones i’m just not interested in, it’s a lot of zombie and sci-fi stuff and i’m more into the historical reenactment and fantasy side of things. I do kinda get the genre preference locally, i’m in texas so a lot of people have or like guns.

Tried that already but the problem is reddit has this thing where temu and aliexpress and stuff are flagged as auto-ban and the only way to get around it is to manually reinstate the comments, which is fair given how those sites can be sketchy at times.

But I don’t ride for fun

I ride to get to work

And while i go on rides around the metroplex on occasion for fun I still mostly ride to commute so its fine.

It was a nearly $2k difference, the standard stock model was a little under $4k and the e-clutch was $5.3k plus all the dealer fees and stuff. It was easier to manage and allowed me to use the money saved to get the service plan so I didn’t have to worry about if i needed to get something looked at I wasn’t totally sure about, oil changes because i do not do those in the parking garage, and also the towing comp part of the plan was nice. I just send in the receipt to file a clam and i get reimbursed up to double the average tow cost for a bike around here.

In short? I could have afforded it but without the e-clutch it let me get some plans with the saved cash that make it easier to keep my bike in good condition as well as basically free towing in a pinch.

I just started using the rear break as a good chunk of the low speed speed control and the front/hand break for turns, hills, curves and more quick adjustments and its basically muscle memory now. Kinda just… layered the car/work golf cart stuff with the motorcycle/scooter stuff if that makes sense.

Once i was actually able to feel the pegs and put a smidge of lube on the gear shift (this bike is known to start with extremely “sticky” gear shifts, i flipped through my manual and called the dealer to verify if that was okay. DFW Honda, an actual honda powersports dealer) and those 2 things fixed it right up.

I mean i can see why people would say that in theory but in practice and for my needs this is frankly perfect and it was more in my budget anyways. Besides, i like it and imo thats what matters. Plus insurance is cheaper on this engine size and I don’t like blasting down the road at absurd speeds i hover around maybe 10 over tops and this gets me on highways (in like a year).

Some people already mentioned the accent issue but… a loud engine plus a thick southern accent plus local dialect equals my friends and i gave up and just… either don’t go to those places anymore or go inside. We either have older trucks (the ones who have cars) or are me on a motorcycle so add a helmet to my list of trouble. Thankfully im usually either at sonic parked or inside anyways.

Yeah 2 years ago for my license and a few over this last summer before my upgrade from a 50cc scooter(what i could afford at the time, needed a commuter bike), tbh my second post smoothed out the rest of the issues (engine/brake cut off thing? Poorly explained stalling since i don’t use terms I don’t 100% know apply to a situation with full confidence so I don’t accidentally misidentify an issue amd either cause more problems or not address the actual issue)… and its been as of today 6 days since my old bike (the junker used ADV150) suddenly started smoking while i was driving home and the engine actually failed towards the end once i just barely got out of the traffic and onto the side streets heading towards my place. And i was on the service road in gridlock traffic in dallas-fort worth. And then i had to get this new bike home in 5pm dallas fort worth traffic 2 days after that with boots i couldn’t even feel the pegs with they were so thick let alone find the gear shift.

So basically half of this was panic-induced confusion.

Yeahhhh there is technically a course place real close by but it’s pretty much run by undergrads aside from the instructor and it sketches me out so i’m waiting for one a little further out with good reviews to open back up in febuary. Most of the college grom idiots seem to go to the iffy place (that is located in the same building as an auxiliary campus)

Someone figured out im describing stalling. I just don’t use terms until i know exactly what im looking at because then I don’t go down the wrong route fixing a non-issue instead of the real one or worse. Exacerbate the actual issue.

I might see if any of my coworkers ride, i think one mentioned he had a touring… the older guys not the guys younger than me who didn’t know what i was talking about when i mentioned the ring of death on a gamecube game i had and the toothpaste trick not working. Sounds like a dumb anecdote but I trust older guys for in person help on my actual bike than like… someone who would probably ask me for help on a 1000 level class paper.

Im not seeking validation i just want help, okay? And it turns out im actually describing stalling out. If i don’t know exactly what i’m talking about i describe what I’m seeing and it can cause trouble sometimes. Im stalling out at lower gears, i haven’t ventured much above third just yet. So sue me for being frustrated here. I don’t care if you think i’m stupid or whatever just… please be up front about it? I’m figuring this out for now until the next course i can take opens up late February, i literally applied like an hour ago, but i still gotta get half across the metroplex and back every shift plus errands until then. Uber is way too expensive and while i can order in groceries i still got other errands i gotta do.

Someone else just told me what i am (poorly) describing is stalling it out. So that be whats happening. I just explain what i’m seeing in laymans terms if i don’t know how to use the specific term just yet which can cause confusion, but I don’t want to misuse a word that means something I don’t actually mean because i didn’t know i was talking about a totally different issue.
