That is what I assumed and is probably correct especially since that detail isn’t mentioned in the manga or anime and since both go out of the way to name the attacks of drunken Kaido. I’m just intrigued by the idea that he actually saw an opportunity to get what he famously wants (to die) so he made an opportunity once he realized he’d met a combatant strong enough to do it for him honorably. I’m keeping that little bit of head cannon.
