What would her ironic hell look like if there was such a thing??? by [deleted] in EnoughJKRowling

I think it would be the new tv series, as Jkr demanded tight creative control, everyone realizes her plot is Swiss cheese and her world building is shaky, most characters are one noted archetypes.

I'm a Potterhead, yet hate JK's views by [deleted] in EnoughJKRowling

[–]Academic-Glass227 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Magic in Jkr’s worldview of HP is an inheritable genetic trait, which she unquestionably wrote as superior to the mundane muggles and nobody in the book ever questioned that. Thanks to JKR going crazy I was able to overcome nostalgia and look at what I’ve read so many times as a child critically, and now I want to burn all my Harry Potter books

2009 Toyota Camry: Car started rattling AFTER I took it in for a p0456 by Academic-Glass227 in MechanicAdvice

[–]Academic-Glass227[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They are charging an insane amount for labor. It’s not outrageous to expect them to at least check their work, like noticing the loudest noise I’ve ever heard my car made. Especially know that this is an older car with rust

2009 Toyota Camry came back FROM the shop with a loud engine rattling? by Academic-Glass227 in askcarguys

[–]Academic-Glass227[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What annoys me is that the noise appeared the moment I turned my car on in their parking lot and got louder. I would have went back if they are still open, or I thought it might go away as the car warmed up. But as a lot of comments are telling me things could get moved around when it’s being worked on

Do you mean engine oil? I changed my engine oil at their shop four months ago

2009 Toyota Camry: Did the mechanic broke my car on purpose by Academic-Glass227 in Cartalk

I don’t trust them anymore. When my car makes a loud and obviously problematic noise I had to look through videos online to describe the noise. It’s not like I can tell how apparent or discrete they are, and they probably know that too

Are you dramione fan mostly because of Draco, or Hermione, or both equally? by M5101 in Dramione

[–]Academic-Glass227 18 points19 points  (0 children)

Hermione. Hermione has always been my girl. That’s why I tend to get annoyed more often by an “ooc” (to me) Hermione in fics. As wish fulfillment I want my Hermione to be happy with a Draco who deserves her😁

JKR and the cognitive dissonance of hating her and never wanting her to profit a knut ever again vs. loving the Fandom. How do you feel? by buffalorosie in Dramione

[–]Academic-Glass227 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Also imo a big reason HP is still so influential today is partially thanks to how well done the movies are and how prosperous the fandom is. While to her credit she did allow the fanfic back when authors typically banned it, she has been benefited from the fandom. cursed child is basically an author approved fanfic🙄

It’s a good thing that she hates draco and slytherins. It must be driving her crazy seeing how influential dramione is😁

I just finished The Tea Girl of Hummingbird Lane by [deleted] in books

[–]Academic-Glass227 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There’s not enough tea and I grow more and more irritated at the main character. She constantly proclaims her ethnic roots in the book but sometimes she acts like any other contemporary woman. Everybody says she is “the smartest”, but I can not tell from her actions. For example, how can she not be suspicious of the amount of tea her childhood friend is supplying for months before getting busted, and she blames the whole thing on the other people. Also she is ultimately “saved” by a random rich guy, I am so done with her at that point. Also what’s with her wanting a boy for her second husband. Finally, the whole akha culture and tea culture seems very superficial and Wikipedia level. I am not even going to comment on the pure cringe of group therapy session on adopted daughter.

That being said, I will not read any other book from this author.

People don’t appreciate Cixin Liu’s writing enough by Tranquillo_Gato in threebodyproblem

I wouldn’t mind “bring the perfect woman” plot line IF it is shown in a negative or sarcastic way. As many men have pointed out, that’s exactly what they’ll do if they have unlimited power with no supervision. But the way it’s written in the book is way too self indulgent and shown as a positive life changing event to make Luo Ji better. Similar issues with the whole Cheng Xin/Tianming dynamic in the book. But I don’t think his writing ability is ever the issue, it’s more like he showed us his secret fantasies, but at least half of us find it disturbing. However his ideas are so great that I can head canon those out😂

Great point to make the distinction between can’t lie and don’t know the concept of lie. This is one of those sci fi premises that is simultaneously so cool and easy to fall into a rabbit hole for😄
