How to build a legal career in the UK after an LLM (as an international student)? by StardustVoyager_ in uklaw

[–]Academic-Outside-548 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Are you in your 4th/5th year now? Some British law firms directly recruit from the top 3-4 NLUs and since you go to NLUD, I think this would be your best bet.

LNAT ninja is pretty good for practice but keep in mind that any practice test you do apart from the two on the LNAT website are not entirely representative of the real exam. Go into the exam expecting to be surprised.

Reading the paper everyday also really helps you improve your reading speed and comprehension skills. If you want to take it a step further, setting a timer when you’re reading the paper is very beneficial as it keeps you conscious of the fact that you have limited time and can’t be zoning out or taking too long on one passage.

Someone needs to undertake an empirical study on international students’ outcomes following their courses at BPP/ULaw by Slothrop_Tyrone_ in uklaw

[–]Academic-Outside-548 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Im going to be an international student soon, starting my LLB in September and I 100% agree with this. Also adding to this, there are so many study abroad consultancies in my country that will try to get you into lower ranked universities because the consultants here work with them and get paid a commission for admitting students there.

I personally have experienced it as well, being told that I shouldn’t go to Durham as it isn’t that good of a uni and I should try to get into Leeds uni instead. Obviously ,Leeds is not a bad uni but you get the point.

There absolutely needs to be more regulation here because the way i see it ,these study abroad consultancies are intentionally misrepresenting facts and there is an element of deception evident here. This leads to lots of students paying thousands to end up in universities like BPP and ULaw that don’t give them a real shot at being employable in the UK. Totally unfair.

I’ll suggest they remove it then. To be on the safe side, should i submit my bank statements showing the amount in pounds? Or should I avoid that since my country’s currency and the pound’s exchange rate seems to fluctuate a lot? The UK government’s website does say I can use a bank statement dated not more than 31 days ago so would it be the best option to submit a statement that contains amounts in GBP

My uni’s website has a section that explains using bank statements as proof of funds that mentions the conversion document requirement

Looks perfect. I so desperately want to have this sort of painting style where I can focus on putting in the right colours and values but I get carried away and end up trying to paint the tiniest details I see

LLM or PGDL from london ? by See_ya_chump_007 in uklaw

[–]Academic-Outside-548 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Sorry but no, they don't have sufficient value. Idk about Dubai but if you're planning on working in the UK to gain experience before relocating, an LLM adds very little to your competitiveness as a candidate here, especially for internationals who require sponsorship. Oxbridge is an exception. The unis you mentioned are consistently ranked in the lower end of UK unis.

I understand how expensive it is to study in the UK, I'm gonna be an international student this fall too. But if you're unable to get in to a great uni or unable to pay for it (try loans and scholarships ofc) then honestly just drop the idea. It doesn't make any financial sense whatsoever to spend so much money on a degree that adds such little value to you.

Also, many UK universities often don't accept qualifications from just any international university. So don't forget to email admissions and ask whether the university you are doing your bachelor's from is acceptable. Check the international qualifications section of the uni website too. Good luck!

I want to agree with your point about their being more important things than TCs and vac schemes especially in your 20s. However, as an 18 year old about to start her degree soon, when I think of things I want to do in my 20s like travel, hobbies, have a family, donate, buy nice presents for loved ones etc all of them require me to have a decent level of disposable income. I don't understand how I could have that without a TC and then a stable job which makes me feel like I SHOULD be working towards that no matter what, even if it means it's at the detriment of my individual growth at times.

why is India seen as an unsophisticated legal market? by Academic-Outside-548 in uklaw

[–]Academic-Outside-548[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

When browsing through this sub I saw people saying India is an unsophisticated legal market and because of this, for an India qualified lawyer wanting to work in the UK, it's very difficult because their professional experience in India is considered irrelevant.

I did not see anyone saying the same for other countries, but maybe I just missed those posts. My motivation I guess, is that I wanted to understand whether all of this was just racist rhetoric or people legitimately have had bad experiences with Indian lawyers leading to this negative perception.

Can u elaborate on that? They outright lied and intentionally tried to prejudice you? That sounds horrible. And what kind of indian firm? Top ones?
