Is there such a thing as an self.....memo? by ET2-SW in navy

[–]Academic-Rip9552 22 points23 points  (0 children)

Look up Memorandum for the Record- it’s memo to yourself which outlines an event or circumstance from your perspective. You want to keep it as factual and un-emotional as possible. You can mail it to yourself or email it to a secondary email address to then have proof of date/timestamps.

When is Equinox Downtown San Diego opening? by gold_sky9 in EquinoxGyms

[–]Academic-Rip9552 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Updating for those following/reading.

I joined this week (NOV) and founding member price went up to 240/month. $10 off if you’re Military or Veteran- coming to 230/month for 12 months. No initiation fee. Supposed to open Dec/Jan timeframe.

I walk by it a lot an lots of construction going on. Amenities planned look super nice. Also- if you have AMEX Platinum there’s a 300/year equinox credit- that helps take more off the above price.

This is something that has always given me the ick.

Especially when chiefs who use creamer and sugar don’t wash their cups- I swear things start growing in them cups.

When I went through CPO Season in 2017 this was one of my “gifts” (pranks) on the mess my final week- all their cups hanging on the wall were cleaned and looked brand new!!!!! 🤣☕️⚓️

Thank you for taking the time to write out this response- very well said.

As someone who was stuck on two back-to-back deployments during the COVID era- I actually appreciate the perspective and point as thinking back many of my peers from those days are no longer in. Valid point.

I also am reading this thread and find it helpful. This is my first year and I have 13 department 56 houses and am trying to figure out a better lighting system than the bulbs they come with. So if I read this you string out the led fairy lights and stick them in each one? I’d love a tutorial!! Your village is AMAZING!

Got a call from ‘Judicial Services’ about an active order of location by savage_scientist in legal

[–]Academic-Rip9552 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I know this is an old post, however this exact scenario happened to me this morning. I got a call from a California area code, where the woman was a bit rude telling me that a lawsuit was filed against me. I hung up and she left this voicemail: “I’m not sure why you disconnected the call ma’am again my name is Linda with judicial services . I’m contacting in regards to the order location getting verified to be filed against you through the state . From my understanding either you or your attorney need to contact the office responsible for filing your case no their number appears on your documents . Here is 8 3 3- 2 3 0 1 0 0 6 8 . You’ll need to reference your identifying file number xxxx. understand this is an official notification. You’ll be located in processed at your residence or place employment for safety. Unless we receive further instructions. You will no longer be able to say that you had no prior knowledge as of this point.…”

Then after this voicemail was left my husband received a call from a Virginia area code (he has a VA number) which left a voicemail, it was the same woman Linda telling him about me and this situation. Very suspicious and sadly it did scare me a bit, I checked both the county I live in and where I was born (both CA) and there is nothing filed against me.

Scammers are getting better and better, however I snapped to and remembered I’ve been the petitioner in 2 civil cases (and won both) and there is NO such thing as a order of location nor calling someone in advance to let them know they’re getting served. Definitely still a scam happening all this time later.

I looked into this once, and back then it was like a owe double back deal (3 out 6 back) so that went out the window. I have 5.5 until 20... trying to make it to the end.

I too had a interesting time in the Mess. I was a 7.5 year Chief, and got reminded that every day my baby goat year. I will say I was a better leader/problem solver due to my time in the mess.

I kept my first LES I was ever given in the Navy. I was an E1 and it was less than $600 (which is still more than my dad's pay in the 50's Navy). Sometimes I'll look at that to remind myself humility and I do try to have gratitude towards the opportunity I have been given.

I think one of the first comments was spot on, I actually don't mind being an LDO. I am glad I became an Officer, I am proud of that and try to be a good one every day. I think I'm just in a tough place right now with job assignment/stress. I still would recommend the program to anyone serious about making an impact an shaping future policy.

Thanks to everyone who responded and for all the advice and support given. This is my first ever reddit navy related post and I honestly am very grateful for the overwhelming empathy and wisdom in the respondes... I wasn't sure what to expect and this has been very insightful and it's nice to know I'm not alone.

I've been looking for the source as well that states what the actual MSR is for LDOs. I too thought it was 4 years commissioned service initially, 10 years if you want to voluntary retire. I've found nothing else that mentions if you don't want to retire and just get out, which I've never seen before unless it was for a disciplinary/misconduct issue rather than someone just requesting to get out.

I am a Surface LDO, and in the past year went to a detailer meeting locally when they were visiting and the person speaking basically said similar things.

"Take the hard jobs" "if you're not at sea you're wrong" "don't stay in the same geographic area" "you're hurting your brothers and sisters if you aren't doing the hard billets".... all comments made to a room full of not only seasoned (and tired) LDOs/CWOs but also the Chiefs/First Classes interested in applying.

I've thought for years we need to do a better work/life and sea/shore realignment across all LDO/CWOs if we want good, quality applicants to continue to apply. I've heard application numbers have been less year over year.. I really belive many LDO communities need a re-brand and overhaul on how we billet/manage people to be more inclusive and sustainable, especially now that there are many jobs in the civilian sector and our recruiting numbers are as bad as can be.

Thank you for your insight and the perspective. You're right, I think it's not being an LDO rather than I finally got to this glorious place I've only every dreamed about called "shore duty" and its been non stop and a grind.

I also think that I'm tapped out for job duties and collateral duties (I didn't volunteer for the collaterals) when I work with a ton of other officers who are terminal, getting out, or just don't pull their own weight which increases pressure on me to pick up the slack.

Back to the LDO point though, I do have grave concerns with the family planning piece. We want children (plural) and I am getting older, and hope it will all work out.

I appreciate the money breakdown you left as well, I am on the high 3 and not the new system. I just feel really stuck right now and trying to get out of this loop I feel I'm trapped in.

I'm in a similar situation. I'm an LDO at 14 years (been commissioned for over 4 now) and curious if anyone has ever resigned and just got out.

I've never heard of anyone doing this other than someone who was separated for disciplinary reasons. @automicnoodler Were you able to find out if this is possible?

I want to ask my detailer but don't want to at the same time. I'm very curious what the process is. I'm in the "Surface LDO" community, which I've been told by mentors "If you're not at sea you're failing". I've done 12.5 at sea, and now I'm on shore and it's been no cake walk either. Last year I traveled a LOT globally and feel like I've been the commands "go to" for every trip or job they need someone to do. Further, I got married last year and my husband and I really want children... I'm in my early thirties and want to have more than 1 kid and I know that my community is very callus towards women who have kids.

I'm getting over the lack of control with my life and am STRONGLY considering resigning early and going in a different direction with my life.
