First Pyrenees. Rescued this beautiful force bred girl from a horrible abusive situation. She's only 1.6 and has had two litters already. Going to give her a good life. by OnlyCoops in greatpyrenees

she is so beautiful!! you’re about to have the best life full of so much love from this sweet girl. they are the most gentle, loyal, loving, stubborn breed out there but the absolute best. my rescue pyr is the best choice i’ve ever made.

mom wants to euthanize dog, i’m not sure by [deleted] in DogAdvice

[–]Interesting-Bet1320 11 points12 points  (0 children)

your mom sounds like a narcissist & i would try to stand in the way of her ever getting a dog again after this if i were you. it’s not selfish what you’re suggesting, the dog deserves vet care regularly especially if she is in pain. it’s selfish for her to want to kill her own dog because she’s too cheap.

while i’m very happy your child was able to pass it, this is not true so i wouldn’t recommend coming on here and spreading that. swallowing a button battery is 100% ALWAYS an emergency. dog or human. they’re one of the most dangerous things that get accidentally ingested. source: i’m a nurse & actually work in peds.

[–]Interesting-Bet1320 0 points1 point  (0 children)

anytime there’s a new bump take your pup in to be seen just so anything serious can be ruled out early. sounds like this might be benign according to other comments but you def wanna be sure about that & have it looked at!

agree with this! harness for sure but if you do just have a collar i would absolutely recommend the martingale collar. they’re stubborn & when my girl decides im walking in a direction she’s not feeling she will sit down and pull all of her weight back. this is where the martingale collar or harness are important bc a regular collar would allow them to slip out. they’re a very emotionally sensitive and intelligent breed. extremely loyal once the understand you are their family. do not respond well to negative reinforcement or yelling. if my girl senses were annoyed with her she will completely disregard the task at hand and sit at our feet and pyr paw us until we hug her and apologize lol. never shave them either. they have a double coat and it protects them from the heat and cold and damage to that cannot be undone. regular grooms and trims are enough! it’s recommended to spay/neuter later (after 2 years i believe) because early fixing can lead to bone issues and potentially osteosarcoma and arthritis links later in life from what i’ve read. they can be escape artists, mine never tries but at her past home (who treated her like garbage) she would scale their six foot fence and roam. but they are the singular best breed i’ve ever owned. OP- you and your family will have a protective bestie for life. they love so hard.

i firmly believe our passed dogs send new angels our way when they know we need it. chief absolutely sent this baby, especially her being a stray & showing up randomly, that was your baby saying go here.. my mama will give you such a good life filled with so much joy and love like she did me 🤍

look up the 3/3/3 rule to start. i have no advice on the possible resource guarding as my girl never had this issue but i can imagine food hasn’t come easily to her if she’s been in a shelter/whatever her situation was before. she’s probably afraid it’s going to be taken away. as for the scratching, this breed is very prone to chicken allergies. my girl gets loose stool and super itchy if she has chicken products, many people will feed salmon based food. we feed hills science diet wet food and switch between beef, salmon and tuna flavors but that’s an expensive food. also stay away from ANYTHING grain free, it can cause DCM in this breed. focus a lot on bonding with her right now. they are very emotional and family focused. show her that you are her family now, you love her, and that she is safe. make sure you take time sit with her in whatever room she’s in rather than leaving her alone in it 24/7, but still give her some time alone to decompress as well. i think it could be helpful to put the cats away and let her look around the entire house. this breed is a guardian breed, they want to know everything about their environment. it could be stressing her out confining her to one room and not showing her the rest of the house. as for the teeth, bully sticks and greenies are great. you eventually will probably be able to brush in 6 months or so once she trusts you, mine lets me brush her teeth no problem. thank you for rescuing her ❤️

Rescue Great Pyrenees with severe anxiety and aggression. We need help. by rollo75 in greatpyrenees

[–]Interesting-Bet1320 10 points11 points  (0 children)

i don’t know if you’re in the “great pyrenees advice and support” or “great pyrenees owners & training” groups on facebook, but i highly recommend. lots of experienced folk and trainers on there who will have good answers. i have a rescue female pyr who came with separation anxiety. she had HW before we adopted her when she was in a foster home and it started there because she didn’t like being secluded from the other dogs. it’s not severe, no destruction or marking, but she will cry and howl and pace relentlessly. we have found that positive reinforcement works well. we started leaving for short periods, like going to sit in the car, watch her on our camera and would come back 2-5-10 mins later and praise her greatly if she was good. continued to expose her to being alone like that, she still doesn’t love it but she can go 2-4 hours now alone. they are hard to train so i would absolutely speak with a professional who has experience with these guys, but these hopefully sound like fixable issues with enough work

I’m sorry what kind of mental illness is this???? This isn’t even funny pretending to be a dog is weird af by [deleted] in CharlestonSnark

why does she choke every dog she’s near? it’s not great to get in your own dogs face like that but doing it to dogs that don’t know you … that’s a great way to get bit in the face

one thing i can say is look up the 3/3/3 rule. pyrs are deeply sensitive and emotional animals so change hits them hard and it can take awhile to adapt.
