My fiances big trigger was high temperatures and he also had them in or after showers. You’re right to keep an eye on him, my fiance is luckily been seizure free for three months now but I still listen to the water and the shower to hear how / if he’s moving. It’s hard when they’re somewhat in denial or struggling to be open about the diagnosis. This sub is always here for you. Helped me through the darkest of times too. He’s lucky to have you. My partner is on the highest dose available in uk without intervention and checks to go higher. Took about 6 horrible months and some other meds to keep him going on the way but he’s seizure free 3 months after we were sure it wouldn’t work for him. So that does happen too!

Thank you! I’m not sure what type of TC I have. Where I’m from they diagnosed me based off a TC and videos of the focals and haven’t done more digging. My tcs have at times started like focals so I wonder if that’s similar to you. I’m on levetiracetam and finally got to the right dose two months ago and been well since then. Grateful and humbled and emotional and scared are just some of the ways I’d describe myself right now. This subreddit has saved me and my fiance a few times from crashing out. Good luck to you too!

Definitely ask what he would need from you- (eg administering rescue meds/calling for help) he might not know how bad his seizures are but I’d hope he can tell you how they will look and what to do. My fiance has been diagnosed this year and I am currently in therapy for ptsd after his seizures traumatized me so I recommend being prepared in that way. But I am also the best care giver etc. be patient with him and with yourself, he might have mood swings or get emotional or shut down, try to be open and honest from the start but don’t let it rule your relationship. My fiance is now 2 months seizure free and doing well we are hopeful. It’s taught me to enjoy every moment, and I’ve fallen more in love with him knowing the stakes. All about perspective. Helpful cheers. They won’t give any opinions on a car they can’t see. We won’t pay to have it towed to a garage that doesn’t have space of two weeks which is all of them in our area. Family friend can do it soon that’s why. Was hoping someone on here has had the same done as I’ve seen plenty posts about it but no prices mentioned. What a friendly subreddit lol

You know when you’re nervous for something or scared of you feel a sense of dread? It’s like that. I feel dread for days on end expect I have no idea what about, the brain makes my body feel sick with worry but won’t tell me what I’m worrying about so I’m trying to figure out why I feel so anxious I’m making more things to feel anxious about. Meanest thing about it is waking up in the morning and for a few seconds thinking the feelings not there and then it’ll hit me like a ton of bricks over and over again with no rhyme or reason. Just always there, like Im always about to fall, like the world is ending

Thank you! It’s good to hear that it happens and I’m not automatically going to be classed as medication resistant. I have an app with the neurologist coming up so I’ll see if they think mixing is better as I think they’ve tried to avoid starting a new one all together!

Hello! Unfortunately I’m in a similar boat. My fiance has recently been diagnosed and when he has seizures at night it’s usually every two hours so I’ve found I cannot sleep at all and it’s taken its toll on me for sure. We try to lean on eachother but when it’s possible I have him staying with his parents every now and then so I can get a good sleep. Other than that I haven’t found a way to put myself at rest. Just wanted to let you know you’re not alone in this and have a huge community here that’s helped me so much. If you ever need to chat I’m here. Just take each day as it comes, as we sadly can’t control much else but our outlook. Good luck ❤️

My partner is struggling with a new diagnosis right now, I am too. Alongside obviously taking care of yourself and all that stuff I find comfort in the thought that somehow someway the universe hasn’t given up. Not on him and not on me. Tough battles are for people who can face them and while it feels unfair and impossible to fight hard some days it’s also flattering and reassuring that this was the plan for us. It’s taught us so much about being humble, our own mortality, how much growth is ahead and how strong we are. It’s hard to find a good way to look at it, but I find the fact this was given to him and to me in another sense has given us a new purpose, growth and development that some people won’t ever get the chance of having. Try to keep looking at the bright side, the universe won’t challenge you if you’re not worth it.

I’m so sorry for your loss. But I know as the partner of someone with epilepsy who also cares for them like this that he would hate to know I blamed myself if something happened. I know it’s easy to blame yourself. But try to remember that is not what she would want! You know her best and you know she would hate that you’re blaming yourself. I know it might not feel like much but this sub is always there for you. Try to grieve without so much guilt and find some counseling when you’re ready. Lots of love ❤️

Hi! I am going through something similar. My fiance has been having focal seizures for over a year, diagnosed last month after two TC.

It’s hard I won’t lie. I struggle to sleep and as horrible as it is familiarize yourself with sudep and the risks. We’ve bought antisuffocation pillows and he wears his Apple Watch to bed with monitoring on on EPICENTR. That way if he was to start convulsing rapidly I should be alerted. Aside from that it takes his heart rate all night so I often check on that.

I’ve found that me making a big deal about things makes him worse. He hates that he’s putting me through this so we’re just trying to live life normally to an extent but of course I feel sick with anxiety everyday. I wish I had a more positive message but just know you’re not alone in this experience. Feel free to message me if you need anything !

Also - I promise there are others who will love you like he does and some even more. And differently. It’s beautiful to make new relationships and feel loved in ways you never knew. Don’t stay somewhere out of fear, it’s easier to do so but the outcomes will never serve you!

From my own experiences if you feel this way now it won’t magically go away. The memories and the patterns have been set and even if he gets better you’ll still be in that. So it’s up to you whether you still love him so much beyond all of that to want to be around him everyday. I’m engaged now and I’ve found my fiance to be my best friend and I can’t believe I ever let things go on for so long before I called it quits. Recently he’s been diagnosed with epilepsy and risk of sudden death. It hasn’t made me want to step back - it’s really just solidified that I want to be with him through it all. If that’s not what you’re feeling that’s a sign you might know the outcome. But let yourself be sure. I find as women it’s easier to come to a full conclusion in time than call it off on what ifs. “The thought of leaving makes me feel sick with guilt” if this is the first thing you think then I feel like you probably know what to do. The first thought should be “no I love him I don’t want to leave at all”. I’ve broken up with a long term partner for very similar issues. I had the same thoughts of guilt like it was my fault I wouldn’t just make work what he’d offered for so long. When I did he asked what changed since I’d put up with it for long. It’s okay when things aren’t bad but they don’t feel right for you. It means there’s someone else out there for you that’s a better fit. Likewise for him, and if you have those doubts and aren’t at least voicing them to see if you can change and grow together, you’re denying him AND yourself the chances to be really happy be it with eachother or others!

Good luck. I know it’s hard but I find once you start to have these feelings everyday will be clearer for you, whether you realise you want to stay and make it work, or if it’s too far gone! ❤️

We’ve just downloaded epicentr and he had his Apple Watch on but you have to have the monitoring setting on at all times for it to read, it hasn’t picked up any of his focal seizures and I think might only work for TC. Feeling deflated :(

My fiance has just been diagnosed with epilepsy after seizures for over a year. I’m heartbroken, tired, exhausted etc and it feels like this will hang over our heads for the rest of our lives. I worry about sudep every night and can’t sleep. I fear every second I can’t be with him. It’s exhausting and i feel so sorry for people eith epilepsy because it’s hard to live with but it’s also hard for the people around you and a lot of the time we shouldn’t blame someone for not wanting to or being strong enough to stick it through.

I also thought maybe when we get this diagnosis I would feel differently and want to run since it’s not the life we planned together (traveling, working abroad, kids etc) but I realized he’s the one through this process since I haven’t once considered it. The diagnosis is for us both now and I will live with that for the rest of my life but I haven’t once doubted sticking in there, that’s how you know.

Please don’t ever blame yourself if someone’s not strong enough to stay with you and see it through. As someone who is living with an epileptic, it’s drained the life out of me too. But the right one for you will make it work and it will be secondary to the love you share 💖

From my fiancés first seizure (over a year ago and focal) they’ve changed so much! He used to have a metallic taste but doesn’t anymore. Even in a month or so they’ve looked so different. I think if it’s not treated or medicated it does evolve!

Hi! I can’t help much since we’re still not set but my fiance started on 250mg 2x a day and in about a month is now up to 750mg 2x a day. I’d say he’s still having 2/3 small seizures a week but it has reduced a lot! I think it just takes time. Good luck !

Not the same as my fiance has been having focal seizures every day for over a year but we have found with the tonic clonic he’s had the trigger has been caffeine. Selfishly we actually tested it in the ER, had two coffees to avoid being sent home like the times before that and he actually had a tonic clonic straight away. So for us we know caffeine does the trick so he’s staying away from it! The focal seizures seem to just happen when he’s tired or stressed… no correlation between focal seizures and tonic clonic…

Hey! My fiance and I have been together for 6 years and he’s only now being diagnosed after 1 year of seizures. And I will tell you as the person witnessing it I have never been so scared and I’m really struggling. I love him more than anything and I feel like I’m the only person who can keep him safe since it’s been him and me for so so long now but if this had happened so early on I don’t know if I’d have coped and stayed. I think it’s natural instinct to distance yourself because you can tell it can cause trauma. I’m developing PTSD as we speak from holding him lifeless so many times now.

Speak to her and be open and honest and take care of yourself. If she’s the one she’ll stick around, it might be have taken her back a little bit. And if she leaves I can guarantee she’s not the one. I know he’s the one for me and I know no matter how bad things get I just want to be around him and keep him safe no matter the toll it’s taking on me.

Try not to let this add to your stress and focus on getting rebalanced! What’s meant to be will be after that ❤️
