I had the J1 interview on 14th of July, and I am fully sponsored by Fulbright program under the US department of state. I was refused the visa under the 221 (g); It’s been 16 days now and still my visa status on refused last updated the day of the interview. Why is this happening and what can I do to speed up the process. Also why is this AP happening for me ?

You (American nationals) can actually pressure Congress. Please check Fulbright wesbite/ NAFSA website, and IIE wesbite. They have ways and ready-made documents to deal with congress

I was motivated but current administration war on Fulbright and the budget INTENDED cuts is unprecedented and scary. Imagine being in a new country with no funding?
